Increase the 500kb limit in the photos forum?

Have you any suggestions for additional forums or improvements?

Of course the finest image on the site is only 2.08kb...

The 100kb limit per image and the 500 max per thread are so that those who are not on broadband can still enjoy the forums (and there are quite a few non-broadband regulars around) ;)
So I don't think it'll change anytime soon!

I just dropped a line to a Mod on that very topic...Total weight of all the images is some where above 600KB... :-/

I would like to see the size and the weight increased. A 150K shot can be displayed in all its glory at 1024x768 x 150KB

the 800x600 limit, especially with a wide screen which has a ratio which makes cropping to 800 wide, 500 high which means the shots end up smaller on one end.

800x500 or even 800x600 on modern screens is small. On a decent wide screen its very tiny and much of the detail is lost.

I agree. 150k isn't all that bad.

On a modern wide screen which many people use now, the ratio at 1024 produces a 640 high image. So 150Kb covers both the wide screen people and the 4:3 ratio people

150 is tight but it can be done and with about the same amount of loss as 100Kb at 800x600

More details can be seen. Many times I had to eliminate parts of a shot or discard an image because I knew after it was reduced you would not see the detail or it would lose its feeling.

Case in point, this image

http://www.simviation.com/yabbuploads/2 ... 35-282.jpg

which at 1024x640 did not require cropping to show the plane closer and it allowed the feeling of being in a huge valley (you could see it all) come out with the plane large enough to work in the shot.

Raising the thread weight to 600K allows 4 shots @ 1024x768 x150K or 5 if you can get them under 120 which is possible depending on the color detail in the image.

So uping the threads to 600 and the weight to 150 will allow for technical progress which has been around for some time and with the thread weight limit will still address those on slower connections because 100K added in this day and age is not that much.

I've just taken to using thumbnails now. It's bloody annoying to set up, adding all the code into the post, and having to upload two sets of shots to two different places, but I'd rather not have to compress my photos so much (sometimes not a problem, but when there's extra detail in the shot it starts to noticeably lose quality) and create 50 different threads because I've visited an airshow.

Most people seem to get along fine at other forums, where theres no serious limit on file size, or where linking to other sites is allowed, but nevermind...

I thought about that one myself awhile back as far as the weight limit. I'm content with the rules as is but always wondered........ What about one 500kb shot. Not something you would use everyday I am sure. But what if there's that one shot out there you really like and as close as you can get it in the compression is say 78-82%, thus ruining it. But instead of 5 100kb (or as close as you can get compression wise) shots you end up with one georgeous 500kb shot. If it were allowed say for the screenshot contest and edited screenshots only?

I have only violated the rules once when I first started screnshot taking................I feel as though another marmalade attack is comming to get me for my opinion on this matter :-X. Better make like the wind lest I get sticky ;D

Thats what I was getting at... the 200 threads that will inevitably spring up a few days after RIAT!  ;D I might have to go down the thumbnail route myself.
