Elections?

Have you any suggestions for additional forums or improvements?

Charlie, I don't think any suggestion can be deemed ridiculous if it's well intentioned.  :)

Ok how are the Uk and USA not democracies. You will find we have the freedom of speech, to vote, too own a gun(america only), and many other things you all take for granted as you live in a democracy you feel is not very democratic.

I think if we went into details we may just break the "no politics" rule... ;) Democracy, as you will learn, is a very loose term! ;D

We will have democratic elections, and will keep on having democratic elections...

Until the electorate get it right.  ;)

Felix and myself are from Florida...  ;)

IMO, being a mod is about maturity.  Not maturity as in you never screw around, but as in being able to do little things like take responsibility for your actions, and admit when you're wrong.  I hate it when I have to move a thread or suggest to a member that his behavior is in appropriate somehow, but I do it anyway.  I do like to look beyond a person's one screwup and see a well-intentioned guy who wants to help but may not have thought out his response as well as he should.  If you're on a power trip and want to do this job just so you can ban people or lord it over others, then forget it, because you will suck at it.

Being a mod on this forum is one of the ways I give back to the FS world.  I've made a couple of sceneries, built a few airports, made one or two utilities, but that's not really much.  I am terrible at making airplanes.  If someone wants to work with me one on one, I might get it off the ground, but so far, I suck at it.  So I give where I can.  There are certainly people out there who know more about FS than I do.  But I have been around a LONG time and have figured out that it's not about how much you know; it's about how you treat people and your ability to work out problems on your own.

If you want the job, I think the best thing you can do is put your time in on the forums, earn your licks, and let Pete know about it and accept whatever decision he makes.

I'm an admin myself, but for Flight Sim Ground Vehicles. This is because I created that website and its forum; therefore, voting me for mod of SimViation's forum will just add to the burdon and I don't want that. Thankfully, FSGV's member population is just 40 and holding. When the numbers get higher and higher [and when spammers get more problematic], then I'll be making my own decisions as to who gets to be moderator. If Fly2e is right about how many people turn down the offer of being a mod [which I believe he is], then I'm gonna have to make sure I'm ready to handle the massive responsibility of dealing with rowdy members trying to disrupt my forum.

Fly2e is right when he says that being a mod is NOT a rewarding experience. Of course, you get to decided contest shots, access the admin forum, and lots of other stuff that only mods get to do; but all that power comes with responsibility and responsibility requires time effort. Like I said, my forum is pretty small for the time being, so I got plenty of breathing room.

Ok how are the Uk and USA not democracies.

The UK is technically a Constitutional Monarchy
The USA is technically a Constitutional Republic

I repeat that Simviation is not a democracy.

Maybe the annual

SimViation Member's Member of the Year Awards

(The SimVs)

would be more appropriate. Then we could have egos massaged at no practical cost to the forum...

Awards could include:

"Member's Member of the Year"
"Young Member of the Year (under 17s)"
"Lifetime Achievement Award (for the more "mature" posters, as opposed to an "Old Member of the Year" ;))"
"PITA of the Year"
"Poster of the Year"
"Best Thread of the Year"
"Most Pointless Poll of the Year"

finally,

"Most Ridiculous Suggestion of the Year"

This is post my entry. :P ;) :D ;D

Charlie, you forgot one, Spammer of the year  ;D ;D

1. Captain, if the problem is not entered into the technical logbook.........then the aircraft does not have a problem.
2. And, if you have time to write the fault on a napkin and attach to it to the yoke.........you have time to write it in the tech log....see point 1.

Thanks Matt. [becomes Captain Mainwaring] Well done. I was waiting to see who'd spot that... ;D ;D ;D

Jessy for mod then? ;D

On a more serious note, if we needed another Mod then maybe someone from down under - purely for the frustrating times when idiot porn spammers start posting away and no mods are around - generally during the daytime in the UK...

Pete selects his mods with the greatest of care. Firstly he puts forward names, he also asks the mods to do the same. Then we whittle it down to a "select" few. Then we put pictures of those people on the dartboard and lob darts at them. The first person with their nose pierced is offered the job (and believe me with the amount of beer the mods can drink even hitting the dartboard is impressive) ;) ;D
A thorough and efficient system...
