just wondering.
Can you guys change the rules for future Screenshot
competitions so it can be larger than 800pixels wide?
most if not all browsers can resize an image to the screens resolution.
And
Are we allowed to upload 2 images of the same image and one is 800pixels wide and less than 100k
and the seconds is a picture of the same image
but be linked to not behind image tags and be greater than 800pixels wide and greater than 100k?
Most of my pictures lose MUCH quility if i turn them into Jpgs.
thats one heck of a long sentence i kno!
thanks for your time!

No.
The reason is the same as it has always been in regards to posting images. 800 pixels wide is the standard here at Simviation so pages load evenly and images are displayed without having to navigate your mouse back and forth to see the whole image. Having them at 800 wide works well for all involved.

Use it to your advantage. If you're running at a higher resolution, you can then crop out an 800x600 "block" that creates an interesting perspective, visually speaking.

It won't work for the screenshot comp, because that would technically be considered an "edit" but hey, for regular screens, it would be great!

Also please remember the bandwidth issue, which is why we have these limits as a number of members are on dial-up and it slows things down for them terribly. Hence certain rules we have with regards to image size etc

Scott, you can crop.

But would that include the idea I was suggesting? Taking a monstrous shot and then just cropping out the best 800x600 section of it?
If so, hold on, because I'm gonna have some great shots! LOL

Yes!
Cropping is allowed because you are not really touching the actual image. You are just "presenting" it differently. Cropping is allowed as stated in Rule# 7.

Tonight I'll do one to show you what I've got in mind. I really wish I had FS here at work so I could do one now. (It's probably best that I don't!)

Cobzz, what are you using to resize?
EDIT: I just noticed in your original post you said the problem occurs when you CONVERT them to jpgs....capture them in jpg and see if that helps.

Whatever you take them with - you can do either too things to turn them into jpg's. Either open them in Paint and simply "Save As" and then save them as as Jpg.
If you would prefer an easier way of doing it and getting them to size at the same time then do the following. Right click over the pic and send to email. Ok the option to make the pics smaller when it comes up. Then drag it out off the email and into the desktop and there you are all done!

Easier yet. Download GrabClipSave, which will automatically save them to the folder of your choice as a jpg with one pressing of the print screen key. lol
