where are you from

Postby loomex » Fri May 21, 2004 7:09 am

that seems to be a question that is asked alot here.  We are a diverse community with a common thread. Almost all of use have great pride in the communities we live in. Why not a new topic under "General" called "My Town" or "where are we from"?  Rules would be simple. subject should only say "my town, my state, my country"( Ithaca, NY USA). Unless aviation is a very LARGE part of the town, it should not be allowed.  Basicly info, facts, trivia, pictures and the like should be allowed. Sticking to the topic would be a must. Now when someone comes in and wants to know where everybody is from, we can just point them to our our "personal" forum site we wrote about our town.

I have never had a problem with this on any Forum... :)...!
If we all incuded in our "profile" our location, age, etc,  we would all know exactly where we all live, and wether we are "old timers or teeny-boppers, etc..."..!
...simple...!
..and it's always nice to know...I reckon... ;D...!

Cheers all...!

Once again the "where are you from"  question has come up. And once again I say lets have a new topic area called "My town"

and once again, it boils down to what does each individual want to reveal about him/herself?

Let's remember that Simviation is a flightsim oriented site, and while the "General" and "Cafe Simviation" (and a few others) Boards are available for general chit-chat, many people still don't want to reveal too much about themselves.

Sure the topic will come up - again and again - and people will respond, it'll peter out, and then come up again a few months later.

As an aside, the "photos" board was set up to be aviation related, and mostly it is, but I sure don't mind seeing "off-topic" photos posted, particularly if they're posted by whoever took them!

Wouldn't it just be easier to put it in your signature?
Great edit, Bob.

I have to agree with Felix. Not everyone wishes to broadcast their personal details on a public forum. This is their choice. If they wish to do so there's a place in the Profile specifically for it. This is not compulsory.

If we all incuded in our "profile" our location, age, etc,  we would all know exactly where we all live, and wether we are "old timers or teeny-boppers, etc..."..!
...simple...!

Although my age & location is no secret to regulars here I choose not to include this information in my profile. This might seem silly but it's my preference. :P 8)

I wasn't aware of this. I've posted photos of my home town which seemed to go down rather well. I enjoy seeing photos of where other members live. :)

Well, now after hearing different reasons why we shouldn't have a "My Town" forum, I'm convinced that the forums are fine the way they are...after all, like what Hyperion said, it is easier to just put that stuff in your signature, lol  ;D :)

Precisely - that's the type of "off-topic" photos that does prove my statement.   You - and others - posting photos you've (emphasis on you) taken, along with a little story around them; that's what brings any collection of photos "alive" and not just "a pretty picture".
