Avatars

I was recently contacted by a disabled war veteran who was somewhat viciously rebuked by a SimV administrator(By private E Mail) for displaying a correctly sized RAF Bomber Command Avatar.
May I suggest some guidelines as to which Avatars are acceptable for the benefit of future members
Regards

Hi Aeronut. I can't speak for the "SimV administrator" concerned but personally can see no objection to a Bomber Command avatar, providing the image was in the correct JPG format & within the size limit.
Please keep PERSONAL avatars (logo under your name) less than 10K & 100 pixels wide

I consider it highly unlikely that anyone officially connected with this site would send a vicious E-mail to anyone. Are you sure this was genuine? Who sent this E-mail? There's a lot of weird people out there these days.

I don't see why anyone would have a problem, I've been flying the RAF ensign for about 6 months  8)

This doesn't sound right. I think someone has produced a spoof email address. Pete would be the only person who could do this, and he certainly wouldn't.

Maybe this explains it. http://www.simviation.com/security.html
I've received mail only this week from 'admin@simviation.com' with an attachment. This is not a genuine address to my knowledge & the attachment is most likely a virus. Not sure if they're abusive as I delete them without reading them.

PS. There are genuine @simviation addresses - I have one myself. If you receive unexpected mail from anyone mail the sender & ask if they mailed you before opening them.

I think Hagar has got it right...I've recieved a number of similar emails myself...SimV, Avsim, NoNodes...

Deleted the webmaster @simv without reading...wrong size and it came to a new email addy I had set up...Pete has my old addy that still works. :)

aeronut - Like the others have said - this can not be a genuine case. We just don't do that.

There are clear guidelines about avatars, etc, in the signup agreement.

I see you have resigned yourself as a member. This would seem to be a clear case of wrong information being taken seriously.

As always in life - we should always try to establish facts before coming to conclusions.  8)
