I have a idea, don't know why it came to mind. Probably had something to do with the  *hint* computer crimes unit. *hint*  Anyways, we could have a "buddy" IM new members basically saying hi, and tell them to feel free to ask any of the members questions. Don't know what others think, if you guys like it, maybe Pete could look into it.

You mean basically a "Welcoming Commitee".

The only problem I see is that many new members might not know how to use the IM feature. :(

Maybe better to have the welcoming email pass the word to new members that they are encouraged to ask any questions in our helpful community.

I like that idea better, an email would work better. But what about people who are parenoid about who has their e-mail address?

See, my idea is, that whoever would be doing it, would have an @simviation.com address or something that the person recieving the email will already know about. They should be told to expect a email from a perticular member. The email address of each new member would have to be kept confidential or we could end up scaring new/potential members away. I don't know, maybe this was just a bad idea in the first place.

New forum members already receive a 'welcome' note from the 'simviation forums team'. Most members sign up & don't stay around. They will typically sign up to ask a question - get the answer & it won't occur to them to re-visit unless another problem in FS arises.....

I'm not sure I would want to be 'made welcome' if I was just signing up for a brief question ..... It would be more likely to put me off visiting again. & I personally think it goes without saying that they know they can ask any questions - that's what the forum is for
