Three pdf files containing information about the Douglas C-124 Globemaster II. Thanks to paint master Ted Giana I stumbled on the nice aircraft by Jens B. Kristensen. As I wanted to know more about the Douglas C-124 I found these two pdf files containing good information about the aircraft. The pdf file called 'Douglas C-124 Globemaster II_text.pdf' comes in handy when you want to copy text from the document. The same counts for the Wikipedia document. Happy flights.

A quick search and it seems to be freely available.

As stated above the book stated, is free to view from the public. No purchase necessary. Also, citing of technical and operational information isn't considered plagiarism or piracy, since it's found in public documents for the aircraft's operation. What is plagiarism/piracy is if someone says it's their document. The author of the upload in this case, does not state that either, merely lists them and provides them as reference material that they found for the Globemaster. So they also aren't taking credit for the documents. Also, as an example given above, that book is listed on that site as "Open Source," As well.

The Internet Archive is hardly an example of legal copyright free use. Four major publishers took them to court, and the Internet Archive lost. The judge's ruling said:

" ... the Internet Archive had digitized “millions of print books and [distributed] the resulting bootleg ebooks free of charge from its site, without the consent of the publishers and their authors or the payment of any license fee."

It's going through appeal now. As a book author and with a life-long career in publishing at both public and private organizations, I don't condone copyright piracy. For every "forum police" there are more than enough gimmepig scofflaws.

The book is, indeed, still under copyright, is still for sale on Amazon and at other book sellers. And, no, not declaring yourself to be the author doesn't give anyone the liberty of freely distributing a copyrighted publication as an eBook. It don't work that way, folks.

I've purchased books from Ginter Publishing. They contain much more than just the original Air Force tech manuals in their content. It's pretty foolhardy for a website to condone piracy. Maybe better to point out this illegal, yes, illegal copyright violation than see one of our favorite flightsim sites get into trouble.

There's no indication anywhere that publisher Steve Ginter and author Earl Berlin have declared the C-124 book to be a freebie. It is still copyright protected. I'm sure Ginter Books and ISP Network Solutions, simviation's hosting service, will sort it out if simviation.com admins do not. Pete needs to make do diligence here 'cause it's pretty clear what's going on.

Well in light of that I have delisted it. It's just an interesting bit of literature - but not worth getting into any hassle over. Interesting knowledge nonetheless.
