Am I Doing Something Wrong Or Is Downloading Disabled?

Postby Honduras2811 » Mon Feb 24, 2014 12:50 am

I've been trying for a couple of weeks to download some Vintage GA packages, with no luck. After I click the file I want to download I get taken to another page with a Download button. I press the button and eventually get a response that it was unable to connect to Simviation. I can press 'Try Again' for hours with the same result.

My system Is Win XP Pro SP3 on an AMD multicore motherboard. My browser is Firefox 26. I'm not having this problem with other web sites.

Hi - sorry to hear you're having this problem. Nothing changed on simviation so it is probably your end. Try clearing the history/cache in your browser.

Sounds to me like you have an infected computer. Some malware or other has gotten in there. Download Spybot S&D and run that, it's free, can't hurt to run anyway. :ugeek:

I use RegCurePro and Webroot SecureAnyware to take care of virus and Malware problems. Spider is too quirky for me.

I tried Google Chrome instead of Firefox and got this: Oops! Google Chrome could not connect to simviation.com:8888

I cleared my browser cache and it doesn't appear to have made any difference.

I don't think I have the problem identified well enough to know where to start looking.

I am wary about using anything by Google. Even Google earth makes a mess of windows 8. I have to read very carefully when I am downloading anything to make sure any google programs are not ticked, such as Chrome. I'd rather do without than use anything Google. Just my opinion, take it for what it's worth. :ugeek:

Uninstall Firefox.
Run Malwarebytes full scan. (Delete what it finds)
Reinstall Firefox. (I would suggest you add Adblock Plus and NoScript to it).
Type- %temp% -in start/run and delete what it shows. (There is one file you cant remove, let it be).

For what its worth, i only use MSE for my protection!

I have W7 on my computer and I run Firefox for almost everything EXCEPT my flight sim sites. For those I use IE9 and haven't had any problems. With Firefox I did have problems downloading from some sites and after the latest update I've run into problems with the MSNBC "pictures of the week" (or the week in pictures, whichever.) and once in a while I'll come across a video FF won't play although I've had very good luck with You Tube videos.
So after all this Blah Blah Blah I guess what I'm suggesting is to download fltsim files using IE8 or 9. I hope this helps!

An Aircraft Mechanic only needs two tools, Duct Tape and WD40.
If it moves and it's not supposed to - use the Duct Tape.
If it doesn't move and it's supposed to - use the WD40.

That's all very well with an older computer with Win 7 installed, but if you have win 8 or 8.1 it comes with IE 10 and 11 beta respectively. It is not possible to download ie9 to a win 8 system. That's one of the big contentions with Win 8. There are lots of suggestions as to work arounds on the Microsoft help blog site. :ugeek:

Yes, but the same apparent problem has been reported on other systems. Just a thought for them. :ugeek:

Yes I would also suggest trying another browser. I have also experienced trouble on some sites with firefox but not IE - IE but not FF ... and I have also declined to update FF on my main PC because of just this --

However - Never give up! There is ALWAYS a solution! :ugeek:

I've used Firefox for years on my WinXP & Win7 machines. I've never had a problem downloading files from Simviation. However, I know several people who've had various problems with IE. I wouldn't dream of using it myself.

Never had a problem with Google either.

I think you're right. IE and Google don't mix well.
