Download Problems

Hi, hoping someone can help. I recently got myself a new laptop which will become my primary computer (plays FS9 very well), anyway I am using a dial-up connection and can not download from simviation. My download speeds are extremely slow in general for some reason (<1kbs) and I dont know why.
I managed to partialy solve the problem using a download accelerator. I still, however cannot download from here. If I try to download a file normally when I click on the download link it eventually times out. If I use DAP it is unable to establish a connection.

Any help?

It sounds like your firewall is being a little over-zealous. Which firewall are you using?

You cannot use most download managers on the free site - that is because they make multiple connections to a file & effectively 'abuse' our bandwidth (with so many downloads & often with such big connections like cable - limits need to be put in place for the free site to make things realistic)

If you use a controlable download manager like 'getright' you can set the connection limit to 2 - & that should work.

The speed is due to your ISP. With those speeds it would be worth looking elsewhere.

Liek Mark said - you shouldn't need to use a d/l manager. Take a look at your firewall & if necessary add simviation.com & our other file servers (63.217.28.218 & 63.218.227.225) to the 'trusted sites'

The speed use to be fine on my desktop though, would that mean it has something to do with the modem on my new computer?

As for the firewall, I am using the windows one and also the basic one that came with the 90 day trial version of Norton which came with the computer. I will get a more advanced one when the supscription expires.

EDIT- Just downloaded something from here on my other computer and it went fine (3-4kb/s)(feel free to laugh at me broadband people). I used DAP and it only did one simultaneous download so I don't think that that is the problem.

I just found something else out. I can download fine from the commercial repaints section but no other sections. What's the difference with this section?

Hope someone can help
