Glory Days and the Sud Caravelle Jetliner

Postby Jetranger » Wed Oct 21, 2015 2:49 am

My YOU TUBE Friend Christensen, just posted this video on the Sud Caravelle Jetliner from the 1950's 1960's era

won't get food served like that anymore on these Jumbo Tubeliners :o

and check out all that Super Leg Room too :P :o

Nowdays, ya' get your food, in a cheap looking plastic or paper tray that looks like it came fresh from some 3rd world convenience store warehouse, after sitting around weeks :o

Gone today are the nice looking Airline logo's on glasses and plates and eating ware, no more Silverware or glassware, replaced with paper, cardboard or plastic

So true, JetRanger, and thanks for reminding me of those wonderful days.

I was a Boeing 727 pilot for Eastern Air Lines in the late '60's and took ski trips to Switzerland a number of times. My first visit was, as is often the case, the best, in part because I was invited to sit jumpseat on the Swissair Caravelle from Munich to Zurich. As I recall, it was a moonless night with heavy fog in Zurich. Back in that day, the Caravelle was one of few 2-crew airliners, and I was very impressed with the way the approach to minimums and landing were managed. Soon after this trip I transferred to the DC-9 and carried the image of that Caravelle crew into my new cockpit environment.

Ah, the memories.

And, I couldn't agree more with you about the bland contemporary liveries. What ever happened to the idea of wanting to stand out from the crowd, strut your stuff, show off your feathers? Yes, we are one world but that shouldn't mean we have to be homogenized. Wouldn't it be great if the major carriers dressed at least some of their fleet in the old colors? It would sure give the flight sim repainters some fun challenges.

Thanks again!
