One of my co-workers in Juneau Tower did his WW2 flight training with the RCAF - ended up flying P47 in the USAAF - said he was the oldest pilot in his squadron, 27.

Good afternoon all... :)

A wet damp day it is also.

I just shared several ounces of LAPHROAIG Scotch Whisky with two fine fellows who dropped in to say hi.

They both were Flying Instructors in the Royal Canadian Air Force during the BCATP "British Commonwealth Air Training Program" here in Canada.

I played them this video and they are both going to contact these folks as they were very impressed.

Most of the time we talked about aircraft and fellow aviators, many who have bought the farm, but I did like the idea they mentioned about a new project where someone helps older folks and not just veterans put their memories to pen and paper.
Know nothing about this but I think it is a wonderful idea.  For myself, I never take pictures or write down notes that I probably should have and probably have lost a good bit of family history by not doing so.  So mode it be.

Cheers...Happy Landings...Doug

It's not to late to start writing memoirs, Doug. It sounds to me that you have led quite the bush pilots life. Those days will never come back as population spreads northward. We have several members here that could be writing about far north flight history.  :) One good thing about the north is that the envirement drives most people away. Only the hearty will survive the blackflies, the isolation, and in winter the cold..  :)

Good morning all.... :)

Hi Steve, well I can honestly say I enjoyed flying light utility aircraft like the DeHavilland Otter, Norseman, Cessna 185 and a few others in and out of lakes during my flying career.

Whether the aircraft was on wheels, wheel skis, floats or amphibious floats I always enjoyed each and every flight.  Fortunate enough to meet a lot of great folks and many not even aviators along the way.   ;)

The Consolidated Canso, Douglas DC3, DC4 and 6s were my steed for many a year and I have had my fill of living out of hotel rooms and listening to Air Traffic Control Clearances.

The company gave me a choice, the Douglas DC9 or the Lockeed Electra, after more than three decades in the saddle I chose the watch and pension.   ;D

This old retired rocking chair geezer had no intentions of going back to school.   :-X
Hell I even turned down the chance for my Rotary Wing Commercial Endorsement all paid for by the company (they don't do things like that now) as I did not see a future for Rotary Wing Aircraft outside of the military.  That was a good many years ago, the Bell 47 was still in it's prime.   ;D

Enough about me, these folks who are making the videos about the BCATP "British Commonwealth Air Training Program" and the pilots and aircraft are doing a marvellous job and I for one can not fathom the work and dedication that must go into a project of this magnitude.

Hope some of you Canucks and other visitors to our country get a chance to go see these folks or follow up on the progress they are making either in person or by the internet.
I am sure it will be a learning experience for all.   ;)

Cheers...Happy Landings...Doug
