Video Recording Software

Postby RaptorF22 » Mon Nov 23, 2009 3:03 pm

I've finally come to the realization that if I want to make FSX videos I'll have to pay some money. So, does anyone know what the best and most reputable video recording software for FSX is?

Thanks! ;D

I think the most popular at the moment is Fraps.
Tyler ( or tcc094 from SimV ) made this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KUFEDb1m-d0

Fraps is a little expensive for me, do you know of any other comparable ones?

Thanks, but the video it produces is really pixelated and bad.

Try Guncam.

PS- You REALLY get what you pay for with video editing software. So choose wisely. Fraps is the industry staple for a reason.  ;)

Oh, and you do know that Fraps has a free demo version that works just fine.  ;)

Most videos are made using the free version.  8-)

Yeah, but you only get 30 seconds of recording. If it wasn't for that I would use the demo.

I would say to make a PROPER video I would use an external device to record. For example If your graphics card have RCA or S-VIDEO outputs, connect it to a video recorder (the way you recorded movies from TV. some typed of camcorders have RCA or SVIDEO inputs, and can also record from a source), then after all clips and scenes have been recorded, then import the recorded clips to your PC with the software provided for (windows movie maker if you have nothing) then ULEAD video studio would do a nice job, or even a full version of NERO would do. (Again Windows movie maker if you dont have ULEAD Studio ect)

well I havent tried it yet, but I cannot think that it would not work, so it is in my opinion the best way. then you have unlimited time, dont have the fraps overlay, and you dont slow your PC down with the recording program as wellwhich have an influence on your game quality and movie. ,(most of the movies made with Fraps and similar is not smooth - the result of using ur PC for gameplay as well as recording)

FRAPS is really first class but creates very large files. You can convert FRAPS avi files to wmv and reduce their sizes to 1280 x 720 for youtube by using AVS Video Converter. Then finally run it through Windows Movie Maker to add Titles, Credits, narration, and music and save to "Best Settings for my computer".  At that point you can upload to youtube if you like.  Here's an example of one I did today.

In some of my videos I didnt use fraps I used a free screen recorder. Google search free screen recorders and you can find some pretty good screen recorders that arent bad at all but buying fraps is defiantly worth it if your going to use it alot and make videos.

P.S.--Thanks for recommending my videos!  8-) :D
