FSX video into youtube video?

Postby OldReliable » Wed Oct 14, 2009 4:45 pm

I have taken movies on FSX, but can not use them on windows movie maker. I there anyway I can convert the FSX movie files or record my computer screen? I like watching the FSX films on youtube and thought I would try one.
I'm a wood and fabric kind of guy.

Get the program called 'Fraps'.

It is payware, but the demo version is free, but only allows 30 second clips.

What you do, is play your FSX video file while recording with Fraps, then you can take the Fraps video clips and put them in Windows Movie Maker, or other video editors. ;)

And since you like watching them as well, have you seen our sister site, Simteevee? : http://www.simteevee.com/index.php

Lots of good ideas, and helpful links at Simteevee also. ;)

Hope this helps, and if you have any more questions please ask. :)

What you would class as videos recorded in FSX are not actually videos. It is just a store of data which tells the game where the plane is, what it is doing (speed, pitch, etc) so that when it is replaying, it knows what it should display.

So instead of it being a movie, it is the script for a movie. It tells the game how the world in the game should react and what should be displayed. This is why you can change the views and zoom in and out. You can't really do that with a movie.

As said, get a screen recording program such as Fraps. Some people use a digital camera pointed at the screen and film it like that. This is more an effect than a good method, however. It gives a realistic shaking motion to the film. However, expect the quality to be much worse as you are recording the outputted images, so everything gets processed twice and there is just a general loss of quality through the camera.
