You don't have to like Rush to like Neil Peart. I for one, like love both. Hell, you don't even have to be a drummer to appreciate his talent. This is is latest solo from the Snakes and Arrows Tour recorded in 2007. Sean and I were lucky enough to see it in person last year in Holmdel.

I studied his playing intensely. My first Rush album was 2112! I was blown away by the fills and incredible things he was doing. If you want to hear his influence on my, download my bands original demo which was recorded in 1990. Listen to the 5th track called "Kissing Lions" and tell me what you think. It is a bit heavier than Rush but has a lot of melodies and great arrangements. Tell me what you think.

I was glad to see he'd finally changed his solo; got a little tired of the same thing, note for note, from the first live album... he reproduced that for years.  

That album was my first exposure to him, back when I was just starting to play... he toppled Bonham as my idol, and next thing you know I had a huge kit and tended to overplay everything for years.


I still enjoy hearing him play, although I normally hate drum solos.

Agreed Neil Peart is a great drummer. Still think Mike Portnoy (DreamTheater) is better.

Dave, that vid is from their "A Show of Hands" DVD. A lot of people may disagree, but I think it's their best live video from when they were in their prime. If you're still in to them, I recommend the new Snakes and Arrows Live Blu-Ray. I picked it up a few weeks ago and it is phenomenal. Also, that link seems to be broken. Could just be on my end though, as my ISP has been kinda wonky the last few days.

Even playing in a cover band that did mostly old Stones and even older stuff didn't quite cure me (even tho' I love Charlie Watts, great drummer)... it took seeing and hearing Bill Bruford's solo on the Discipline tour to really convince me that less can really be more. And he has the baddest rim-shot ever, IMHO.

That's really cool. I knew Bill played with Yes, but not King Crimson. I don't know how to perceive that solo. It's different, for sure.

You need to get Discipline... the first and best (IMHO) of that KC lineup.
