A very good friend of mine [gone now] worked for Spartan in, on, and around the Mosquitos.
He was an Engine and Airframe Engineer and also a Pilot but he did not actually fly in the Mossie as Pilot.

It was very interesting to sit in the Flying Club with him and hear his stories about all of the problems that they had to overcome in order to operate and maintain the Mosquitos. He loved the airplane mostly for its performance .

Thanks Flacke...much appreciated for the reply...

Where was your Flying Club and is it still in operation today :?:

We have watched a good many Flying Clubs become Social Clubs with very little flying at all.

The cost of bugsmashing about the puffy wuffies is a lot more today...

That was the Edmonton Flying Club which was started in 1927 at Blatchford Field. It just recently had to move to a new Airport West of Edmonton when the Downtown Airport was closed to build Condos and other BS! Its still very active and flies daily. I flew at age 15 and finally Soloed at the Club at age 21 on a 1946 Fleet 80 Canuck. It spun really nice and tight but it recovered well due to the big rudder. Simviation has a perfect Fleet 80 Canuck for FS2004.
The Alberta Aviation Museum is still on-site and that is where Mossie CF-HMQ was restored and is prominently displayed indoors. [as shown in your video] Its VERY popular.

Good morning Flacke... ;)

Would love to get out your way again but at my age I am still lucky to get out of bed...

Yes the old Fleet 80 Canuck...I soloed on the DeHavilland of Canada Tiger Moth, flew the Canuck, owned one and three of our children soloed on the Canuck and the Bell 47.

Would be nice to have a Fleet 80 Canuck for FSX in several different Canadian Liveries and on Floats or Skis as well...

Have you any shots of the Alberta Aviation Museum :?:
I am trying to think...now correct me if I am wrong but did the Government not put a lot of money into the Military Base there and then close it leaving only the museum :?:

I am wondering if that is the museum we are talking about.

How many types of Amphibious Aircraft are based out of there now flying into the interior and do you have any shots of them :?:

Wondering how the Forest Fire Season is like now and what are they using to combat the fires from the air :?:

Have a Great Day...Doug

Hello F.T. glad to hear your family owned and flew a Fleet 80. I almost bought one that was owned by my friend who was a Senior Captain on Wardair B-747's. It needed a lot of work and I felt that he could afford it better than I could.
The Fleet 80 was a great airplane for teaching people how to fly properly. It was slow and short-ranged but my other buddy had one for about 40 years and his is now hanging over the front desk at the Alberta Aviation Museum. He put in his will that when he died they could give it to the Museum. I flew that one a bit with him. He did an amazing amount of cross-country with it and carried spare gas.
The Fleet80 for FS2004 is shockingly superb. It flies , handles and sounds exactly like the real airplane. I am not sure if it will work in FSX, I would love that.
Just look up the Alberta Aviation Museum [Including in YouTube]. I am sure you will see the Mossie and also the Fleet 80 . The Museum is about a half-block from the Edm. Flying Club that closed when they closed the Edm. Municipal Airport.
Yes the wise Govt. spent millions on the Namao Air Base, then they closed it.
Since the airport closed I think most of Amphibs etc are based in Red Deer or Yellowknife etc.
Don Hamilton sold his fleet of "AirSpray" converted Douglas A-26's before he died, and I am not sure where his fleet of about 6 LockHeed Electra bombers are now.
For someone like me its tough to see all of our wonderful Aviation heritage and airports closed down, sold, or whatever. This used to be an Aviators paradise. I am so glad that I was here for all of the "glory days".

Good morning and thanks for the reply Flacke... ;)

Yes we are watching the closing of many airports here...it is a shame...almost as if the Canadian Government and Provincial Governments don't like Aviation...
