So what is it this time? - Liver Cancer

Daily coffee intake may save you from liver cancer

A new study shows that drinking more cups of coffee can help minimize the risks of liver cancer. The study adds liver cancer to the growing list of diseases that coffee can help prevent.

The study was conducted by researchers from the University of Southern California's (USC) Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center. The scientists presented their findings at the American Association for Cancer Research's annual meeting.

You might want to drink that with a little saccharin too.

Saccharin shows promise as cancer inhibitor, researchers find

And last, but not least...

The Power of The Bean

There have been many studies that boast the health benefits of coffee. Here are just a few of the results supporting the notion that caffeinated coffee reduces risks of certain types of cancer:

OK guys, here's a big one!

Excessive Coffee Can Damage Your Brain!!!

Too much coffee can increase the risk of Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI), a new study suggests

Ummm...

How much coffee is excessive?

Those who started to take more coffee (from one cup to more) had two times higher rate of MCI compared to those who started to take less than one cup of coffee a day.

"less than one cup of coffee a day"? Does that make any sense?

One extra cup a day can can make you loose cognitive function?

Oh, but wait. There might be another factor in this "study".

The research was conducted on 1,445 individuals from 65 to 84 years of age.

There are so many health concerns within the "65 to 84 year old" age group that may cause a reduced mental function, that I have to laugh.

My own grandfather drank several cups of coffee daily until he died at the age of 96. And mental impairment was never one of his problems.

This, and other articles, keeps going back to caffeine, and caffeine consumption.

Caffeine in pill form has little benefit other than to help you stay awake.

Decaffeinated coffee has less of a benefit true, but it's not the only beneficial element in coffee.

In the end, although any individual may have a legitimate reason not to drink two to four cups of coffee a day, the overwhelming evidence is that coffee has far more benefits than not.

As a concession to tea drinkers

And so as to not to sound overly partial, I will mention that tea also has a few (mostly un-noticeable) benefits.

Please note that the Coffee Institute of Columbia does recommend that tea drinkers receive electroshock treatments until they start to prefer coffee. I mildly disagree with this.

Many others also believe that this may be excessive, and suggest a coffee to tea ratio of four to one.

Like everything else, that will need to be studied more.

For those who claim a medical reason not to drink coffee, or tea

From WebMD - Daily Caffeine Doesn't Seem to Jolt the Heart
The 12-month study included nearly 1,400 healthy people whose coffee, tea and chocolate consumption was assessed. They also wore a portable device that continuously monitored their heart rhythm for 24 hours.

If you don't like coffee, just say so. But the actual medical reasons not to drink coffee, and tea, are falling away.

PS - if you start to drink coffee you will probably get a brief spike in your blood pressure. But that spike doesn't last for long, and completely disappears with regular use.

For those few who may be sensitive to their blood pressure raising after drinking coffee.... Sorry, you're in a small minority, and I don't know of anything else with so many benefits.

However, the Mayo Clinic does offer some advice.
If you have high blood pressure, ask your doctor whether you should limit or stop drinking caffeinated beverages. If you're concerned about caffeine's effect on your blood pressure, try limiting the amount of caffeine you drink to 200 milligrams a day — about the same amount as in two 12–ounce (355–millileter) cups of brewed coffee.

I was just looking for a change of pace from tea, so I started to drink coffee a couple months ago.

I don't mind it, as long as one has the right brew. I found mine... Arbuckle's Ariosa Blend.

Maybe it's because Arbuckle's has been around since 1864, and was used by many on the Cattle Drives of the 1870's and 80's.

Cowboys used to gather around the Chuckwagon so the Cook could choose who was going to Grind the coffee; the one who was chosen was given the 'prize'... a stick of Peppermint that was inserted into every 1# bag of Arbuckle's.

Thus endeth the History Lesson...
