A close call today

Postby jime59 » Fri Sep 24, 2010 2:24 pm

Almost had a collision in Minneapolis today:

Sounded like the cargo pilot was high or something.
"Uh,sorry about that"
He needs to be grounded for awhile.

Actually happened a week ago, and the cargo pilot had a bad radio from the sounds of it.  I would say though the blame for this rest on the ATC.  Even though the B99 was to turn after takeoff, unless ATC asks him to expedite the turn, he is allowed to climb to a safe altitude first.  That, and they should have looked before issuing instructions the Airbus to turn.  As it is, I wonder why they didn't turn the Airbus right instead of left, as it would have been a shorter turn, and would have avoided crossing the other runway centerline.

I happened to read this and then saw it on the news which both made it seem like it just happened today.
My bad. :-[
