Here I was, flying a Sandy mission (SAR) for a downed pilot behind enemy lines. I was flying my A-10, minding my own business, taking down AAA cannons with my Maverick missiles to open a safe corridor for the rescue helos... when all of a sudden my Radar Warning Receiver screamed at me! A SAM was coming straight for me! As best as I could I dove for the deck, dropping chaff and flares in my wake. Unfortunately the missile exploded close enough that it took out one of my engines... As I limped back home I had the satisfaction to hear that the UH60 Blackhawks had picked the airman and were bringing him home safe. Here's a picture that the victim took when his rescuers came to pick him up... Enjoy!
