I have been thinking of getting this for PS3.  Is it online play only or is there single player missions too?  The game box doesn't really explain...

It has both
It is soooo fun to play going back to the basics of NFS!
The singleplayer is a map were you choose races, or just have a cruise around the state.
The online is basically a matchmaking process which gets you in races or hot pursuits.
The ranks/levels are done through both sp and mp. The logner you play SP before you play MP, the higher your level will be thus having more cars to rape in MP  ;D

That pursuit Mustang looks awesome, too bad Ford doesn't sell those.
