I finally got my 70 gigs of xplane today, so far I like it here are my first two screenies...

What do you think? It runs super fast and the flight dynamics are pretty nice ;) Im really impressed with what comes standard...accurate coast lines...good terrain mesh...I still need to explore some more and optimise for Linux...

Very cool. It looks to be similar to FSX. ;)

X plane has always had the flight dynamics ........ but the scenery was pants .... these shots look fantastic .... I may have to invsetigate.

It still lags behind FSX in many ways but what a major improvement over XP 8...cool thing is a software package that allows you to install FSX scenery into xplane..

It runs silky smooth thats the big thing, better then my fs9

I always thought the flight dynamics were crap...:P

...it "worked" more realistically, but when it came down the the individual aircrafts, not a single one of them flew the way it should. There's definitely potential with the sim, but after 9 versions, I still don't see the developers going all the way with it.

(Oh, and the UI is complete sh!t...:P)

Yeah I guess its a case of apples and oranges....either you like FSX or X Plane...

The GUI is different in XPlane but not as spoon feed easy as Microsoft products...like Linux it takes a bit of time to adjust to , it also has the potential to be a more open platform for us home cockpit builders.

Im no pilot but if they used the Blade engine to help develop the Cirrus jet (a real world AC) there must be some truth to the phyics in the sim....

Just a thought :)

Oh no doubt, X-Plane simulates airflow very well, its not completely infeasible to just skip the million dollar worth of wind tunnel tests and just run it through X-Plane for less than a fraction of the cost...

...one thing that I do like about the sim is the simulated airflow around the aircraft. Stalls behaviors, or in fact, aerodynamics are distinctively better than flight sim. (I have yet to see any FS designer that simulates the drag caused by the flat face of the compressor fans at low air speeds...or better yet, the radiator on the P-40; and X-Plane does it automatically.)

...but the model has to be absolutely perfect, a 32 sided polygon fuselage would have noticeably different aerodynamics from a blended fuselage.

Plus, I have yet to see a single aircraft in X-Plane with realistic power and weight. The most extreme example, go search for all the videos with 777's landing on carriers in X-Plane...unless Goodyear has a major breakthrough in brake pads in the near future, that ain't gonna happen.
