Since the first picture has both a Russian and a Jap plane, and both are early models. I'm going to say some air battle on the far eastern side of Russia, possibly some where off of Vladivostok.

it is so nice on the vista I got for my birthday! I've played IL-2 and BF2 for three days straight now! the water is all reflecty and everything!

the japs and ruskies didn't have at it in WWII until 45', but the battle was a result of the Second Sino-Japanese War, as a Russian with a grandfather who served as an aircraft mechanic at the battle of Khalkhin Gol, I could tell you about it instance for instance, but I'm to lazy so I'll just give you a link.
(the reason I like Yak-3's so much is because my grandfather flew them, which is ironic because my grandfather from my mothers side flew 190's in JABO)
