Tips for Newbies!

Just some tips for the new artists that submit images on these boards:

Step 1: Look through the images here:
http://205.252.250.26/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaB ... 1237807839

Step 2: Figure out what styles, techniques, and elements make that image great.

Step 3: Compare the image(s) that you are about to post to the ones in step 1. Do you think your images are of a similar quality, show something very unique/creative, or show improvement from your past postings?

Step 4: Post your image if you think it is good. Don't post one just for the sake of getting your name in on the boards.

Step 5: Based on feedback, figure out what people like/dislike about the images, and improve your efforts.

Step 6: Win our competitions!  ;)

This has been a SeanTK public service announcement. We now return you to your regularly scheduled browsing.  :D

Don't forget the freebie software. Free doesn't and never has meant 'bad'.

GIMP (with addon, GIMPShop) is a good Paintshop alternative and the GIMPShop addon replicated Photoshop layout.

Paint.net is pretty good in general.

I combine both because one lacks a feature that the other one has so I am constantly going between the two. That said, I wouldn't go writing tutorials for the most advanced programs... Start simple and with no financial commitments.
