best recording software?

hey guys, just wondering what the best software is to record in game footage? i have fraps but that gives huge files, crap quality and half the FPS im actualy getting in game. just wondering if any alternatives exist.

Not sure - ive only ever used fraps. I think you would get the same problems with anything that records in game footage 'live'. Huge file sizes is just a consequence of fraps not having time to compress it all - but you can sort this later with DUB or similar. Not sure on your FPS thing, i tend to lose a few but not half..!

Quality~how are you recording? Full screen? Half size? You lose a bit but again i dont think theres much you can do its just one of those things you get when recording 'live' in game.

Id certainly be interested in hearing about any alternatives however!

I've tried fraps like 20 times, but it never works for me. I hit the recording key, and nothing happens. I was sorta hoping to get it working one day.

You could try Hypercam. It's not very good quality. But, there isn't any freeware recorder out there that is.

Hmm...not too sure about the program itself, but try GameCam...seen a few videos taken through it, and the quality and FPS don't look too bad!

will look at it thats pyro, i was playing GRID racedriver at like 40fps hit the key to record the footage and my fps dropped to about 25 :(
