The number of entries didn't factor into the scoring...example.... if Team 9 had 6 entries for a total of 48 points and X men had 8 entries for a toal of 64 points, i'd add the average score per entry for team 9 (which would be 8) and multiply that by 2 (the number of players they were short) giving 48+16=64 total.

It was a great comp indeed and I enjoyed taking part! Thanks for making it Clip! And thanks to everyone for staying the course and keeping up with it...

In six months with several new payware add-ons (and possibly freeware too) in development FSX is going to look amazing! But still the lack of variety in freeware add-ons is going to hold it back in comparison to FS9, at least for screenshot purposes. FS9 still has very much to offer and can look great with some effort put in. Both sims are worth flying and the screenshots are worth posting.  It just makes me think that without the freeware scene, what is FS?

Well done fs9, now everyone knows its not all about shiny reflective water and bright lights but a stable flight simulator.

Well done Team 9!
and remember, this was done using only freeware and mainly default stuff.
FS9 is capable of muchmuch more!
But well done Team X too, I've seen a lot of great shots!

whooo!! :D

Can I just request one thing here... if this competition is repeated... we get more rounds focused on FS9's strong points...so we could have one for 'unusual add-ons' or something...

Was still a fantastic comp and I'm glad to have been a part of it... ;)

Great job X-Men! Four points short isn't bad!  [smiley=thumbsup.gif] We were down by ten after Theme Four. I bet if we do this again in 6 months we would beat them. Good job 9er's.  ;)  :P Hope you don't get killed by the mods.  ;) :P  :D

Sorry for the double post but Krigl posted this.

Right now I see that FSX killed freeware. Modeling something to FSX standard is nothing short of impossible, even for some great FS9 modelers. Since Flight Simulator X came out about a year ago now, Flight Simulator X aircraft, from the shareware folks that built the Flight Simulator X community has dropped off to nearly zero.
There's good reason for it - the hundreds of hours it takes to produce a quality aircraft is just too much for most guys to take on. There's also the additional expertise that is required now, not just for modeling the aircraft in a sophisticated and expensive gMax program, but doing the behind-the-scenes programming as well.
For what reward? Being free-ware, there is no monetary reward, certainly, only the knowledge that maybe your project was the most downloaded file on a major player like AVSIM or Simviation. That's not enough, obviously for most guys. Repaints aren

It seems to me that the main problem is that they keep moving the goalposts. Many 3rd party aircraft that originally worked in FSX are no longer compatible. This applies to all addons including payware. Now things are settled with the release of SP2 the freeware developers might finally be able get to grips with it but there are still enough variables to make it difficult.

gMax is actually free. Learning to use it is the expensive (time consuming) part.
