OBVIOUSLY paused. The snow is falling straight down. Next time, slew the plane forward a bit to make the snow move, adding the effect of speed.  ;) Otherwise, these shots are pretty good. If I was making a set of shots, I would not post both however, because they are both the same thing, just different angles. I like #2 better, it shows more of the scenery, and weather.

Other things specific to each shot:

#1: The viewpoint is a little too close to the plane. Also, in this case the angle does not work very well, as there is little scenery as a backdrop. Only the light system. Its also a little lacking. ;)

#2: The angle is nice, and the scenery adds a lot to it. La Guardia? The lights closest to the plane on the runway are a bit too "sparkly" for me. It is also, a bit lacking, however. Still nice though! :)

The aircraft looks nice, the angles are nice, however, there is also no contrast, it's too dark, no scenery, parts of plane are cut off. Try turning the time back alittle, moving the viewpoint back or zooming out, upping the visibility a bit, and decreasing the cloud coverage a notch.... More AI and a detailed Airport would also help.

I think he went for something realistic... Not every screenshot has to be the perfect sky and time i really like this weather theme and i would like to see more shots of it on approaches and take-offs i think it would be very nice! As for the tail cut off who cares its the slightest cutoff ;D

Nice job A1 keep it up!

This isn't, I think, the effect you get when you pause. And what's the problem with pausing anyway - taking a shot on approach like this without pausing = uncontrolled rendezvous with the ground  :)

This is the effect when you re-load a flight you were making in the snow or perhaps rain. I think this effect looks okay with static shots, but I would have gone for a streaked look for a fast approach shot, by pausing it normally. But he probably was trying something different, deliberately.

I love the background in the second one, really looks like some photos you see, including the sparkly lights. But the plane looks a bit flat there...

Actually, in my experience, pausing it while moving only makes the streaks stop. My FSX is very strange..and also, there is nothing wrong with pausing, I was just commenting on the fact that it (seemed) paused. :)

Those sparkly lights a little too big for my taste...Other than that, these shots are excellent 8-)
