I only got into this web site not that long ago so I need HELP please.

I've seen the entries into the monthly competitions and I think that they are great.
What are the needs to enter and if you have any tips for me that would be GREAT so feel free.

Hello Ilka, and welcome to SimV  :)

You really should of posted this in the Studio V section of the forums as they will be able to give you lots of hints and tips on how to improve your screenshots. But hopefully a Mod will move it there. Also If you are wondering what the rules are to enter they will be posted in the thread describing what the monthly competition is.  ;)

hmm, the basic need to enter is to have been a member for over a month i believe

other things for the monthly contest include only flying free aircraft and not using camera manipulation programs (F1View isnt allowed is it?)

a tip i can give you is to plan ahead. dont make the mistake i do. the competition may have just started, but alot of the best shots come in towards the end.... so when you see the image criteria when the contest starts, think about what you can do. last month it was to capture scenery, but this month it could be to, i dunno, make a nice helicopter takeoff picture

so, think about the criteria and the feel free to go to the downloads section of SimV and download some new aircraft, scenery or whatever for the shot. you might want a new helicopter, or download a snowy mountain... depending on how your shot will look

then, move around all the possible angles you can get (on flight sim you can adjust the height of the camera and more) and take a shot, or several

then, what i do is to go to a different location and do the same again. then i collect up all my shots and choose the best to post


tip for taking the shots:

i personally lower the graphical settings on the game whilst i find the perfect location, then i bump them up nice and high so i get smooth textures and all that.

make sure your shot is 800x600. your screen resolution may be  1440x900... all you do is go to the display settings, find the hardware tab i believe it is (one furthest to the right) and change the resolution to 800x600. the number after the 600 might make it look like 800x600x32. this is just a color depth thing, the higher the nicer, but not all graphics card can take it.

then paste and make sure the image is the right file size



if you need to know any more rules or anything, take a look at the winning shots in the gallery in the contest page, read the rules when they come up and ask around. SimV is one of the friendliest communities i know online, so dont be shy

TIPS:

Think like a photographer.

Get a program that gives you more angles. I prefer the Recorder module.

Know FS. Know how to manipulate the weather and make lighting effects.

Get ideas.

Most of all be patient. You will not just jump to the top in a day. Work on basic stuff first then when you are confident go the next step and enter competitions.

Very good advice but I tend to disagree with this part...
Better to take the shot in your native resolution, then resize later using a program like Irfanview (I use GCS to take the shot and Iview to resize). Reason for that being, if you change your resolution in FS before taking the shot, lots and lots of jaggies will show up. Resizing later from a higher res to a lower one eliminates that issue.

ive never had that problem, in fact i could say it was the other way around.
