After a while of using Paint.net and GIMP as a combination... I downloaded a 30 day trial or Paintshop... and I'll hopefully be saving up money to buy the full product.

I have the 30 day trial for "Corel Paint Shop Pro Photo XI". I originally wanted to get Photo Shop... until I learned it costs $700 US...

Your second one with no film grain looks much better than the first, so not using film grain might be something you can improve on i guess  ;)
