Hey guys I decided to make a contribution here and start a discussion on:

AGGRESSIVE ANGLES

So what do you think of them?

Some of those are way to stretched out.  A little bit of fisheye goes a long way

The angle is one of the main things to be in a good screenshot....

It is a matter of the airplane and scenery, what angle might suight, I think... Showing the burners on close up during the take off is quite right, I think, but it would look quite a bit strange trying to use the same angle on a vintage glider soaring above the alps...

And I think aggressive is nice, but I don

You can also get anice angle with Cropping

like this shot:

And sometimes Scenery can help a great deal too like in the following example

Zooming in with F1 can be great or lead to very distorted pics.. Angles don't have to be aggresive but for some kind of planes it helps  ;D

P.s. I think we hit the 500 kb image max by now so I'll make thumbnails out of these ones if needed  ;D

Yes I realize that some of my shots posted do have the fisheye thing...and that takes away from them...but I'm talking about the principle. ;) ;)

Any more opinions?

I think the fisheye thing is an interesting technique. We've got to keep in mind that in screenart, as well as most other forms of art, appreciation is totally subjective. I feel a shot doesn't have to look as realistic as possible to be great, it can be appreciated for what it is and what the screenartist is trying to acheive. So it isn't a "wrong or right thing", it's more of a "I like it or don't like it" thing. That third pic reminds me of Mad's "Spy VS Spy" mice. The fifth picture is similar to something I did months ago but in reverse..

The last pic is an amazing edit...as in your face as it gets..

Some cool angles, shots... for the inyerface look a bit of fisheye is good, to give the plane the booyakka cumminatcha 3.5-dimensional look* - otherwise it's just a close up and not too aggressive - but not too much fisheye or it looks silly.

*3.5-dimensional - expressing speed, so therefore time, but without actual time and movement.

Yeahhhh... okay. :)

Nice topic! I love angles!!!! Like (the fabulous) Robbie (Robbie!) Williams, in his song 'I'm loving angles instead'

Or a disillusioned Marxist, whose muse has become the less well known of the left-leaning pair:

"I'm loving Engels instead"  :D

Sometimes I can't believe how funny I am.

There's some more opinions.  You know krigl, I think that sometimes fisheye does add almost another dimension!  It feels like the picture is almost "warping" from speed.

And would you believe clipper that the last picture isn't an edit?  The effect was actually like that!!! :o :o :o.

gabe, what kind of video card do you have? Seeing the shots really reminds me of an old 32mb ATI I used to have...

Nothing worth speaking of ::) ::).  Seriously.  I think it's an Sis 650 or something...the good-for-nothing card that came with the computer.  And this is basically a bottom-of-the-line computer for being XP - and a few years old.  My dad has been saying we need a new computer soon so I'm hoping we'll get a Vista-ready one and then I'll buy a card for Vista...that will be nice ;D ;D.

Anyway, having said all that, why do you ask? ;)
