Im looking for a good image editing software because right now im using paint.  I'll be using it for unedited shots mostly but i will probabley try editing later.  What do you guys think is the best?

Photoshop is by far the best imaging software but it's expensive.

although I've never used it myself, A free alternative is the (unfortunately named) GIMP from http://www.gimp.org/windows/

there's also paint.net http://www.getpaint.net/index.html

I was looking for a program to buy, but photoshop is a little to expensive ($650!:o).  Are there any cheaper options?

Photoshop CS or CS2 are the best out there unfortunately with the price tag. You could try Coral Paintshop Pro, but I don't know if its much good. Otherwise its moving into the free area with things like Gimp, Picasso etc.

Why not try an earlier version of photoshop, like version 7 or 6. I don't think theres that much difference between them all anyway...

Negative, I have owned Photoshop since 7...and now in CS2, I see alot more improvements in system performance...I run CS2 along with FS9 and it behaves without any major loss of information for FS9...FS still behaves well with CS2 running in the background...

I like the fancy wall-patern thingy tool where you can put like a pattern of a floor on the wall.

This is the excellent program I have used since the year dot... ...!

This program was often given away free on Magazine cover disks, so check with some of your Mates to see if they have a copy.... ...!
Because of it's age, there is no restriction on it's use now... ...!

For Free You Could Always Use The GIMP. But for about $100 you can Get Photoshop Elements. It's Basically CS2, but a little bit more user friendly.

Photoshop elements looks like the best for me.  Is it useful for editing screenshots of FS?

Something elce you can do is get CS with an educational discount, takes about $300 off the price tag  :o Thats what i did. I got it through my school so im nto really shure how you would do it.

Have you had a peek through some of your old hardware installation CD's...?
Many paint programs like Photoshop, Paint Shop Pro, etc, are often given away for free there...

I got Photoshop 5 included for free on my Scanner installation CD...!
The same thing applies if you install Digital Camera, Printer, etc, software... ...!

It's often a surprise what is hiding in your pile of installation and Magazine CD's... ...!

Even my (old) free Paint Shop Pro 4 does all the fancy work I am ever likely to want to do... ...!

Some of the latest versions are so bleedin' complex, you spend more time trying to decipher the instruction manual than you spend actually painting......!
