I would say it depends on the scenario and how you cut it. Let's say you're fglying a slow aircraft, a Piper Cub for example, and you want to get some scenic shots. Well perhaps cutting some of the aircraft out isn't too good an idea; as this may imply a feeling of speed. However, I've seen some shots (of a slow aircraft) taken from 'just outside the door' / from above/under the wing of the aircraft - this way you can get some aircraft in a a lot of the scenery around you.

I could go on for quite a while, however it's early morning here for me so I'll come back to this

I think cutting the aircraft has its place, when used properly its FANTASTIC effect, however there are some you dont want to cut off. Also placeing of the plane is important aswell, if your going to get all the aircraft make shure you leave enough room inbetween the edges or elce it looks like the plane is one of those mimes in a box trying to get out  ;)  It has its place and i think the shown image above looks good  ;D

Just found an example  :D  Look at the hotshot main image, I made it like that quite on purpose, the original image had the full plane and (to me) it looked a little static. I feal scince i cut off only the wing but left the body of the aircraft and (again to me) it looks as if the plane is about to fly off the screen while the one on fire is, well basicly screwed and about to dissapear into the abis  ;D  Thats my 2 bits hope they are worth something  ;D

My answer was yes before and I agree with charlie about the situation thing..

This is a shot I took yesterday and I think it's a good example of saying that sometimes cutting a part of the plane is good! ( rest of the B-1 shots to follow later)



With a big plane it's harder to give it a speedy feeling.. therefore taking a position right behind the engines with burners blazing really helps!

(P.S. I bet no one thought about using this one for the comp )

I think that it depends what you're trying to get over in the shot. If it's the size then it can be good cutting bits out, so it kind of feels like you cant shoot the whole plane at once (the C5)

Or like in souis you want to give the feeling of power, its always nice to have an engine pic.

I think cutting is Ok, permitting you think about where you cut the screenshot.

What I'm not too keen on in that pic, is the fact that both of the outboard engines have been cut in half, making it look messy. What would be best, would be to keep the two outboard engines in the frame, fully. With the C-5, if the outer engines are totally cut off, it can look a little strange, as the two engines by themselves aren't exactly huge! This makes it look much tidier, IMO.

my opinion is that cutting is not a no go... but again it depends.
when fly2e talked about it recently taking for example a shot of a small GA A/C ( a robin DR-400, if I'm right) what he said was really making sense. but, to me, because it is a small aircraft...
I think cutting big aeroplane can sometimes make sense, like in the above screenshot where the picture may have less impact with the whole A/C in: you wouldn't feel like being a plane spoter... you wouldn't sink in as much...

then, cutting is not always bad.

but keep in mind when making screenshot for simV's contest purpose that Fly2e is judge and that he clearly stated his opinion... ... no cutting
