Exhaust Heat

Does anybody here know how to add exhaust heat/shimmer in Gimp? If not, does anybody know where I can find a tutorial? (I looked in the tutorial library and didn't find anything related to exhaust. :-/)

Sorry, dont know anything about gimp. Got a good technique in photoshop however!
My specs... A hard drive, motherboard, graphics card, some memory, a keyboard, mouse, and monitor - in other words, nothing special.
