Clipper asked me to submit 3 more finalists, and it was a very hard job, as I can see a fair bit of thought and effort went into all of them. Anyway, here are my choices, for good or ill....

Third Finalist Specter177

...for a glimpse into the future...

Testing the F/A-37.

April 7th, 2027

Three prototype F/A-37 Talons get ready for flight testing at Edwards AFB. The Talon is the newest Advanced Tactical Fighter to come off the Lockheed-Boeing lines, designed to replace the aging F-22 for the Air Force and fill a niche in the Navy left open by the retirement of the F-14 in 2006. Military planners have said that this may be the last manned fighter in the inventory, with the rising use of advanced UCAVs. After the U.S. - EU war, America is now the unquestioned leader in military technology.

September 26th, 1939: THEY ARE SHOOTING AT US!

[size=36]Fourth Finalist Harold Kip

...for his (now trademarked) meticulous research....

On September 26, 1939, while on its flight from Stockholm to Amsterdam, German fighters attacked the Mees, one of the 23 DC-3

BAAAHH!!! lol, my bad, my bad..

Edit:: In response to clips comment below:

I have a feeling that when clip first came forward with this contest, he was envisioning a very good response (as was I). I think that because all of our entries spanned just about the whole spectrum of aviation history, that all of them should be put in.

Also, It might not be a bad idea to pop in once a month and remind everyone that If they have another shot that should go in, that they can post a thread with it in. This is purely b/c I think that this is one AWESOME project. What better way for all of us to pay tribute to the events that got us here in the first place.

Krigl had a great suggestion...seeing as how all the entries were truly outstanding, he thought we shouls put ALL of them into the Aviation Museum. We've now seen what our panel feels were the top 5, but what does everyone think of including everyone's effort?  :)
