Screenshot Pros And Cons

Postby Clipper » Sat Nov 11, 2006 1:55 pm

Here's an edited version of a shot I took quite a while ago. What would you say are the strong points and the weak points of this pic? How would you have done it differently?

Now here's the raw, unedited version of the same pic. What do you think of the edit? What would you have done differently in the editing? (Irfanview)

Pros:

- DEFINITELY the scenery - it's terrific!!

- Lighting is very good, it looks like it should be too dark a pic but with the light from the left of the pic, this is counteracted.

Cons:

- A bit too much fisheye on the view - the F-16 is too stretched. ;)

- The sky is slightly boring, in such that there isn't much going on. Maybe some more consistent, puffier clouds, or perhaps none at all for a scenic pic.

I prefer the original one over the edit. The edit is neither more real looking nor abstract so basically it's useless editing imho.

The con is definitely the stretching makes the plane all destorted.....

Also the best angle on the Falcon is a full frontal face view. The air intake makes it look like it's smiling and combined with the weaponry it just gives acool image... top view is also very nice!

Scenery is nice but too bad the lights are only in a small place of the shot.. especially when  there's still some empty space between the city and the mountain ridge.

all in all it's still not a bad shot!

The background is BEAUTIFUL!!!

I'm with the others on the fisheye though. I think the results of the editing were positive, especially in bringing deeper colour to the plane.

well, I've to disagree with some of the comments:

-(for me) the sky is not boring, but really beautifull. lot's of stars, lots of different colors, the clouds are also beautifull. it bears clipper's mark. I think you became a specialist of this kind of sky. dramatic and colorfull.

-(for me) the edit is (graphicwise) really better than the original. the original is like covered by a greyish layer which is removed by the edit, and make it look like more blueish. and it fits better to the background and in the scene. it also deepen the colors (sorry if that's not proper english, but I m not good enough to describe my feelings...)

what I would change, not the fisheye as I think it is the secret to capture such shots, but maybe the plane position in the shot (lower left corner) and may be try to show more of the plane (slightly banked on the right to show the wings).

other than that it's a GREAT shot!!! are you sure we really want to compete against clipper???

yes!!!
