May 18, 1980,.. :think: On That day, I spend weekends at my uncle's beach house. :whistle: 8-) :lol: That's when I meet my sweetheart at the St. Augustine beach, Florida... :D Love as a first sight. :violin: :oops: :violin: :whistle: :roll: :lol:

About a week later when :think: I realize something did happen to Mount St. Helens. :shock: :lol: :lol:.__ :whistle: "For loue is blynd alday and may nat see." :pray: :shifty: :oops: :violin: ...... :lol: :lol: :lol:

On that fateful day,May 18, 1980. The eruption Mount St. Helens was blowing its top, caused the largest landslide in recorded history,.... :shock: :o :shock:

... knocked down trees 17 miles away, stripped nearly all vegetation from more than 230 square miles and caused more than $1 billion in damages. :whistle: :pray: :shock: :shock: :shock:

Wow! :o Wow.. :shock: amazing..... :whistle: By 2004, when Mount St Helens began to stir again, many of the problems faced during the 1980 eruption..... Yet the uncertainty in the eruption style, size and duration complicated the scientific response.

May 18, 1980. I was attached to a squadron aboard the USS Eisenhower and we had just arrived on station in the Indian Ocean off of Iran.
A short time later some one in the crew received a souvenir of some volcanic ash retrieved from Mt. St. Helens and it was put on display in a trophy case on the enlisted mess deck.
I know it was still there when I left the ship in Oct of 1981. I wonder if it's still there? :think:

An Aircraft Mechanic only needs two tools, Duct Tape and WD40.
If it moves and it's not supposed to - use the Duct Tape.
If it doesn't move and it's supposed to - use the WD40.

I got my 'souvenir of some volcanic ash' on May 19, 1980, from EBay. $100.00 bid won. :lol:
