Practice rescue flight

A brief note about my too favorite STOL aircrafts.

The Fieseler Fi 156 and the Westland Lysander.

These two planes were far more important to the war effort than they may seem. In fact the Storch helped prolong WWII due to it's use in Operation Oak: Rescuing Mussolini. And the Lysander made enough trips into occupied territory to shame James Bond.

Nice shots Airmail I like the storch stall speed is very low you can land almost anywhere.

Hi OA, the Storch is an ideal aircraft for touring the Grand Canyon. I like to fly around down low and find places to land. Normally I use the Maule but the Storch would be even better. Sometimes I land on a "shelf" halfway up the canyon and then take off towards the drop off , dive over the drop, put the nose down and get some knots to fly away. You may wish to try a Canyon tour with it one of these days.

I did that with the Devils Tower. I stopped relatively close the edge. It was a close call. So instead of turning around, I just went over the egde. :lol:

LOTS of fun. :D

Of course, your canyon stunt would be harder for a number or reasons.

Once again , I see that we have similar flying interests! I should have known you have done the Canyon adventures. Nice photos of your dive off the edge. Spooky, but that airplane only needs a few knots to be flying again.
You are sure right about my cliff dives in the Maule. Maule's are STOL for airstrips and fields etc. but for the Canyon it would be nice to have something like your STOL's to reduce the pucker factor when you get to the edge and still don't have "quite" enough airspeed. Keep on enjoying yourself, you are good at it.

Nicely done on the set and a rarely seen aircraft seen in the screenshots. :clap:

There are several Mountain Flying Courses here in Canuckland and I am sure there are a few in the United States.

For those Aviators who like to fly through canyons and around mountains there are procedures to follow especially Radio Procedures when starting and ending a flight through a canyon.

I have had both the Military and Civilian Courses and like Float, Ski, Bush or Flights across Oceans and Seas these courses are well worth the taking.

There are also several Winter Aircraft Operation Courses worth the taking also.

Flying through the Mountains in a single engine aircraft without a level landing area anywhere is not simulated on the normal home electronic gizmo. Updrafts and Downdrafts can and will throw a Flying Machine onto the side of a mountain with little hope of recovery and survival.
It happens every year to several bugsmashers... :cry:

My favourite STOL aircraft which you already have is the DeHavilland of Canada DHC-3 Otter. With a partial load and standing on the Brakes...Take Off Flap...the Otter will literally leap into the air within its own length, a partially loaded amphibian Otter will literally leap into the air in its own length also. Not mentioned in the Civilian DeHavilland of Canada Aircraft Operations Manual :lol:
