I remember that Dakota well [DC-3]. I have seen it many many times. It was called "Pinocchio" and it was used to train CF-104 fighter Pilots to navigate using the Radar set in the CF-104. The nose containing the CF104 radar was grafted to the nose of the Dakota and the CF104 Pilot sat at a console in the rear of the Dak. He could then be instructed at a much slower pace on how to use the equipment with an Instructor sitting right beside him.
The airplane "Pinocchio" used to fly every week between the Cold Lake Airbase and Edmonton . We really enjoyed that old airplane and missed it when it suddenly disappeared.
One of my buddies suggested that they put the pointy nose on the Dakota to make it fly faster due to the streamlining! I have flown the DC-3 many times and it would take a lot more than that funny nose to make it go any faster!!
