Over the Cache mountains in Utah.

Over the Cache mountains.

From Bear Lake, Idaho to Salt Lake Valley, Utah.

I've spent pretty much the entire day flying the Salt Lake Valley area.

Tons of pictures, of course, but I don't want to break the SimV server. :D

All of the scenery is freeware from BlueSkyScenery.

I suppose that I'm the kind of guy who wants to SEE what's on the other side of the mountains, not just a generic representation of it. And this is about as close as I'll ever get in this life to see such areas.

It's not the most beautiful area in the world, but it is MAJESTIC. :D

The famous "side view window".

And the pilots view.

I know that there are cockpit people out there, so here's the "other" side view.

Bidding goodby to Bear Lake.

The MYSTERIOUS mountains of the west.

And finally Salt Lake Valley far below. (About 13 - 14 thousand feet AGL.)

Hey OldAirmail. I really enjoy these visual flight stories. Lets me know about some really neat places I want to fly around without having to search them out. Takes up too much flying time to try to find these places only to be disappointed when you visually check them out. I do have a couple of questions though if its ok. What version of flightsim are you using, and what bird is that in these pictures? I especially like the angle on the plane in the first picture and the last two. Is that one of the beech 18s? Those last two pictures really show off that big graceful looking wing shape. Keep them coming OldAirmail.

P.S. That side view window shot is pretty cool too - like it!!

Thanks, Capt, that's very much appreciated.

Those pictures were taken while using Prepar3d V2.4.

I have FSX too, and everything would have been identical with both flight sims.

The aircraft is a Beech D18SVC. It came with 2 liveries: Bush Flying Unlimited and US Army Air Corp.

It might be one of these - Search Results for "D18SVC".

It handles very well, has good speed, and altitude for most kinds of flying.

I'd wanted to look at the Salt Lake City area today. There are a few VERY unusual areas such as the Bingham Canyon Mine.

I started out by downloading Salt Lake City (KSLC) from Blue Sky Scenery (all downloads are free). The more that I explored, the more scenery I downloaded.

I kinda got addicted to the area.

There are a few pictures of the D18 over here if you're interested.

If you want to explore REALLY GREAT scenery? Check out this post - Which Death Valley scenery?.

Also check out the pictures here - A good year for FSX with pictures like these.

Yes. That's an FSX plane, not a real plane!
