Singapore 21: a farewell trip on the world's longest flight

Is there anyone willing to fly that flight: from Newark, N.J. to Singapore? For 18 REAL hours, CONTINUOUS?

Time off for bathroom breaks and meals- but you must use the autopilot. NO time acceleration! NO nappy naps. CONTINUOUS.

Well, They do have relief crews that rotate every four or five hours. I was also reading about that plane, they have a special locker that would hold the body's of any passenger that would die en route, because they don't have suitable landing spots well enroute.

Well, if you want it that way.

You can have a copilot with you, AND you can have a backup pilot & co-pilot who are watching TV, raiding your fridge, taking a nap in your bedroom, etc.

When I read that story I was figuring that there must be a crew lounge and private bunks. Even then, it has to wear them (the crew) down.



But as to flying a sim for a long time, the longest "flight" that I've taken was probably about 2 1/2 to 3 hours. But it might be fun to do this flight, from Newark, N.J. to Singapore, just to say that I did.

Been there, done that. Took off, switched to GPS mode, went to work, went shopping, slept for a couple of hours, landed the plane. The real challenge is to convince yourself that you have enough fuel to make it. FS9 and FSX calculate that you need way more fuel then the tanks can hold. If correct and with some tailwind you should be able to make it. I did this flight twice, made it one time on fumes, second time I had to refuel in Canada.

If I was forced to do that flight in the Flight Sim, I think I would probably be put, kicking and screaming, wearing a strait jacket, into that locker shortly after the start!.... ...!
A half-hour hop from one grassy airstrip to the next is more than enough sim flying for me in one go!... ...!

Fueled it up bumped the tires, checked the Erroil, and cleaned the windshield, gave er' a good goin over, and I'm ready !

Hooked up the Nitrious Oxide Bottles, for that X-TRA Power ya know

I'm ready to circle the World now, lets go !!

Mr Jetman, I appreciate your enthusiasm, but you need to start the flight from Newark, N.J., and I'm afraid that you're not in beautiful Newark.

I'd like to spend more time discussing this with you, but it seems that Lockheed Martin needs my expertise.

I am up for it! Can I wait till after the semester ends and I have more free time? It's only a few more weeks. These types of flights are what I normally do. The longest flight I have ever done non stop is Hong Kong-London Gatwick. (VHHH-LGW) I sat there for around 11-12 hours using a Hong Kong Airlines Airbus A330-200 aircraft. I took off and turned the autopilot on at around the 2,000 foot mark. Took it off when I turned onto final at LGW. I did have to perform a go-around due to heavy thunderstorms in the area (I purposefully set it up like that). Other flights of this type I have done include:

Newark-Shanghai (777-2/3), Newark-Hongkong (777-2/3), Newark-Beijing (777-2/3), Hong Kong-Dubai via Bangkok (Airbus A380), Dubai-JFK (Airbus A380), JFK-Hong Kong (777-2/3), Chicago-Shanghai (777-2/3), Hong Kong-Vancouver (747-400), Hong Kong-Amman via Bangkok (Airbus A330), Amman-London Heathrow (Airbus A330-300), Dublin-Philidelphia (Boeing 757-300), Beijing-Toronto (Airbus A340-600), Boston-Reykjavik (Boeing 757-200), Tokyo-Chicago (Boing 777-2/3), Hong Kong-Los Anglos (747-400)...and a whole lot more! Those are all that I can think of off the top of my head. Very few have been non stop. I normally pause and finish them at a later time. Usually I can do one in about 2 weeks.

One flight I have planned but haven't done yet is Lindbergh's historic flight.

But yeah, I am totally up for the challenge. Just tell me what I need to do! I have also been wanting to do this flight, just haven't ever actually done it.

I'm assuming that you know how to load the fuel in FSX. The flight required 222,000 liters of fuel. Truthfully, I haven't checked it the FSX aircraft will hold that amount. Let us know, will you?

Will do! Just downloaded the links. One question...how do I take pictures in FSX? I haven't ever had a reason to so I have no idea how to.

Oh! And is it Newark-Singapore or Singapore-Newark? Or does it matter?
