Hi!

Thought I'd try something different for a flight this evening and flew 'my' DC-3 on a short flight out of Redhill aerodrome.

Given your approach speed and angle you must have really stood on the brakes!

Nice shots though, love the DC-3! Speaking of the DC-3, checkout how they celebrated its 75th birthday...Oshkosh style:

...... My FS9 DC-3 now has modern round gauges and a modern radio with autopilot which helps on those long hauls!

.... [smiley=thumbsup.gif].... ;D...!

You cant beat a full set of Bendix-King Radios, with Nav gauges and Autopilot, installed in a DC-3.... ;)...!

Its much easier with all the new-fangled stuff!... ;D...!

Paul....FS 2004... 8-)...!

"To be honest I hit parking brake but even that didn't work so I had to press 'Y' for slew mode to stop going into the fence!!"

Hehe, are we cheating a little bit ::) ;)

Thats ok, Good pics Pierre.

Hi!

Many thanks for the replies!

Supposedly 35 DC-3s, sadly I missed that year but I heard it was incredible.

By the way, there are several wonderful cockpit mods for the DC-3 here on simV to update the avionics. My FS9 DC-3 now has modern round gauges and a modern radio with autopilot which helps on those long hauls!

There were some really nice liverys in there.

Pierre,

I remember reading about an early radio navigation system used in the US before NDB's and VOR's but I'm not sure what it was called or if anyone ever modelled it in FS!

I'd guess you're referring to LFR (low-frequency radio range), http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Low-frequency_radio_range.

There is an excellent 'radio range' add-on for FS2004, http://simviation.com/1/search?submit=1&keywords=rr40.zip&x=20&y=11. According to it's readme, the FS2004 version is not compatible with FSX.   :(

Though a project was started in 2009 to update the 'radio range' add-on for FSX, as far as I know the project never made it past early beta, http://dcascreenshots.net/rr/index.php

Nice screens

Many thanks for the reply.  Yes that's the one I think I remember that Bob Buck talked about in his book.  I think it might work well in Fs2004 with the 'golden wings' update which changes the towns and autogen back to that era.  Hopefully someone will do something similar for FsX!

I just did some more DC-3 flying.  I downloaded a mission called 'Berlin airlift'.  It has a very good dark bad weather at night over Germany in the 1940's vibe!  I did the whole thing before realising that it wasn't just a very quiet mission but in fact I needed a patch because I don't have acceleration!  The ADF's in the DC-3 are quite a challenge as well to say the least!

Anyway many thanks for the relpy and info!

Pierre

Cool shots !
I'm one of these very rare persons who really like the default DC-3, ESPECIALLY with this metallic repaint  8-)
