Road Trip..from the air!...

Postby Fozzer » Sun May 13, 2012 11:37 am

Today has been a busy day, but very enjoyable.
Wheeled out my little Piper Super Cub from its hangar at Christensen Ranch (0Q4).
Unravelled my map of the local area, and plotted an interesting route following marked roads on my Satellite Map.
Took off, turned sharp left, and followed highway 25 through a gap in the mountains at the bottom end of Silicon Valley enroute to Pinnacles Ranch.
Landed at the Ranch and examined my map again.
This time following HWY 146, and climbing up the mountains towards Pinnacles Mountain, stopping off at a Bear Creek picnic site near the top of Pinnacles (Pinnacles National Monument).
Dropping down HWY 146, passing Chalone Vinyard (53CA) on the way to Soledad and meeting up with Interstate HWY 101.
Dropped of at Clark Ranch (3CA9) for a drink, studied

Very nice Paul... ;)

Ta Doug.... :)...

..that; "Ultimate Terrain USA and Canada" add-on is a wonderful program!

It was a toss-up..should I buy expensive ORBX, covering small bits of America, or go the whole hog, and buy UT covering the whole of the USA and Canada in one go!
A really wonderful addition, showing all the accurate water-ways; Coastal regions, Rivers and Lakes, and every interstate, major, minor, track, and urban road, as they appear on the maps!

San Francisco and LA, Interstate multi-lane highways and fly-overs are wonderful to follow, and if one knows the road numbers (me!), one can never get lost!
...and don't forget "Route 66" from Chicago to Santa Monica!
Together with "PLan-G" (which also shows road numbers), and Google Satellite and Terrain maps, the Flight Sim becomes a whole new world of exploration!

(I have UT USA and Plan-G for both FS 2004 and FSX)

Paul...Following Interstate Highway 101 from Seattle to San Diego...(closely chased by the SFPD and LAPD!).... ;D... ;D...!

P.S...Interestingly, the UT Road system shows up much better/clearer in FS 2004, than in FSX... ;)...In FSX, the UT road system gets muddled up with the FSX moving road traffic, they don't quite match up!
