I need some help here. My pilot George was keen to do some long distance flying but he wasn't sure where to go. I suggested that he replicates a famous Journey, not necessarily one of aviation, any journey would do......Just follow in the footsteps of.

Anyway, to cut a long story short I haven't got a clue where he's taking me, I haven't got a clue about which journey he's replicating either......He did mention that he's fitted extra fuel tanks to give the old bird a max range of just over 2000 miles (fuel_flow_scalar cfg adjustment), he also mentioned that we would have to make fuel stops that weren't part of the original journey but he would be sticking as closely as possible to the original route.

....during the fuel stop George said we needed to prepare for a very long flight of just over 1700 miles, it could take anywhere between 10 to 13 hours dependant on winds. So I popped across to the terminal and procured some Salmon and Cucumber sandwiches and lashings of Ginger Beer. (and a bucket..the extra fuel tanks had to go somewhere )

This leg was as boring as hell. I took over after about 5 hours and George had a kip......Now where are we going? George was snoring gently so I thought I'd take a sneeky look at his flight plans

Take off was at Teterboro Airport, New Jersey (or "Noo Joyzy" as the locals insist on calling it) with a fuel top up at St Johns Int, Newfoundland Island......another top up pencilled in at Cork. (neither fuel stops were part of the original Journey). Southampton appears to be our destination for the first leg....Opps George is waking up

Still haven't got a clue about who's footsteps we're following though.

Thanks scalper, someone did something similar with the "BatPlane" a few weeks ago....In the end evrythings derivative I suppose.

Looking ahead to the next fuel stop at Cork, the airport doesn't look that interesting so I may have to send "a few of the lads" (i.e. ADE9x) around to rebuild it before we land. Shouldn't take long, the Irish are good at that sort of thing.

The irish are good at that,as long as you don't say'build whatever you want',because there will be walls,roads and roundabouts everywhere!
Actualy there is quite some history about roads leading to nowhere and pointless walls.
During the famine the government decided that the rich should give money to the poor but the rich(mainly bad English people...) tought the irish where lazy(thats true for some...)and didn't do much work(while they actualy did) so they made them do hard but pointless work that earns barely any money like building roads leading to nowhere instead of actualy just giving them money.


I do wish there was some good scenery for Cork airport...

Sounds like you are in for an interesting flight...

When going on a flight or any trip I always like to take along:
-ham, cheese, lettuce, cucumber, mayonnaise on dark
rye...lots of salt and pepper

-salted green onions

-hot tea loaded with sugar and cream

nice "ET" shot...much prefer the dc3

Tru dat! I truly did love my years in Ireland, but one of the cultural shifts I had to make while living there was to get used to the idea that if you wanted to get anywhere, there was no direct route between Point A and Point B. Winding roads everywhere (If you could call them that. More like paved-over horse-cart paths.), even when there were no obstacles other than hedgerows 40 feet tall, so there was no way to see how big the lorry was that was about to obliterate you from the opposite direction. I don't know how many times I could literally SEE where I wanted to go, but couldn't get there by any direct means other than walking. And GPS was no help, because the Irish Road Department refused to release actual survey data to the public. I guess for fear that the Brits might get hold of it, making their invasion that much easier. Someone should tell the Dail Eireann that the the Brits have helicopters now.

Another 2 things you must remember are:ignore the max speed signs on older roads,you can often find signs saying 80KM or ocaasionally even 60MPH signs on some of the most windy roads!
And also,ignore the distance it says on signs,if you drive to fota wildlife park the signs are completely wrong with the distance!(my dad says its to annoy the polish... )

Tis true about the Irish, very hard workers. Lets face it they built most of the English transport system.

The Lads have had a go at Cork airport, they've added some approns, vehicle paths, added a few buildings (not sure about the radio mast though?) and generally cluttered the place up with vehicles, old planes and rubbish. The did have a set of drawings but unfortunately they made it up as they went along. So it's not quite as it should be but definitely more interesting.


Meanwhile:

As soon as we touched down George was out of the old bird quicker than a ferret down your trousers, off to find the loo I suppose. 12 hours without a "jimmy"
