The Goose is Nearly Cooked

This initial scenery is Tongass Fjords, although payware I didn't actually pay for it ;) It came courtesy of Simviation monthly screen shot comp a few months back.

I like the default goose but I do struggle with take offs at times, any tips for keeping it straight would be appreciated :). Today there were storms and a nasty crosswind at Klawock which made for a very dodgy take off, I was glad there were no witnesses :-[

Anyway, once in the air I decided on a short hop to Ketchikan Int.

After an Undignified Take Off

The storm is clearing from the west, I should be alright.

The proximity of the lightning fries my radio gear. (use scroll bar, lightening over on the right)

Where's that bloody airport, I know it's down there somewhere.

Found it.

Still getting pushed around on landing.

Now I need a sparky to sort out the Radio

WOW ! Fantastic shots  :o
I love this bird, it's one of my favorites in FSX. You should install the freeware 3D landing lights that are available here at Simviation ! (by Applepie).

Thanks Daube, thanks for the suggestion about the lights, unfortunately although I've searched I can't find the files :(.

Scalper, getting the lightning does seem a question of luck. I keep hitting the pause button, sometimes I'm lucky after 3 or 4 attempts other times it takes a 100 or so hits.

If you REALLY want help with that goose, I can't recommend enough heading over to AussieX.org and finding the freeware OzX Goose HD Redux package! I'm not a big fan of most of the added repaints, but the flight dynamics and balance have been totally revamped. No more grinding the nose on the pavement when braking, and smooth natural takeoffs, turns and landings. Also an awsome new wake effect! they did an AWE-INSPIRING job on it! (One tip though, you have to remember to keep the engines just above idle, or they stall themselves!)

Go get it! NOW!!  [smiley=beer.gif]

Nice pointers for the reworked goose and textures, I'll certainly give them a go. My old PC's not that keen on HD stuff but nothing ventured nothing gained and all that. :)

Thanks good folk.

It's a tutorial that tells you what addon to download (these 3D lights are taken from a freeware boat :) ), and what to copy-paste in the aircraft.cfg files of the default planes (and some more).

No problems ;)

Just be carefull with the 3D lights: they are visible from the cockpit, and in fact sometimes, depending on their position on the aircraft, they can be a bit disturbing for the forward vision.
Typical example is the default Baron. The file contains 3 entries, to add 3 landing lights beams: two on the wings, and one of the front gear. The one on the front gear is really not necessary, because it will make your forward view MUCH too bright. If instead you keep ONLY the beams on the wings, then it will be just pefect, because your forward view will be just fine, and the beams from the VC will almost act as real beams, allowing you to see the ground in the dark. It's really enjoyable once you get uses to it.

On planes like the Beaver or the Cessnas, the beams are on the wing, so they do not affect your vision at all. You should really just pay attention to the planes that have the beam on the center, right in front of your eyes.
