Jaw droppingly "Awesome"

Postby G.K. » Thu Feb 02, 2012 3:51 pm

Please forgive the use of this (now) much abused word.

One favourite pass time on FSX is to visit places I have been, to see how they compare with the real thing. Here we are in the Swiss Alps. Murren is at the top of the cliffs, it can be reached by cable car from the valley floor. The cable car then goes to the top of the Schilthorn with it's famous rotating restaurant. As seen in "On her Majesty's Secret Service"

We ferried across the channel and drove down to Switzerland in one hit, during our stay we decided to either have a go on the Jungfrau train or the Schilthorn cable car. We chose the cable car.

The ride was bl**dy expensive, what with mortgage and young family, but we had saved up enough to have a go, taking our three (then) young children with us........It was awe inspiring........awesome.......I had never seen a cliff like it.

Going up in the car was fantastic, comming down was even better. One minute the car is gliding gracefully over Murren, the car starts to rise as it reaches the pylon at the cliff top, it then lurches down and forward an we were staring straight down a cliff of thousands of feet......Awesome.

In FSX it isn't quite the same but it does a fair job of capturing the essence of the scene. Looking at this I would like to go back and perhaps do the train and the car.

That's a very nice angle indeed.
I love driving in Switzerland, but I've never gone in the place you're mentionning.

By the way, if you enjoy this part of Switzerland, have you installed the following freeware enhancement already ?:
- LOD 11 mesh
- Lclookup.bgl mountain mod
- Switzerland Pro landclass from FS9
With these three addons, flying over the Swiss mountains is a totally new experience !

Looks awesome indeed  :)

I had a maybe similar experience going up Aguille du Midi from Chamonix on my so-far-only visit to Switzerland... amazing!

I'll have to have a look at those recommended addons...

Awesome Wonderful shot G.K... [smiley=thumbsup.gif]...!

So far I've counted at least 4 examples of the over-use of that horrendous, much abused word, in the thread...

....have I missed any out, so far...?

Paul... ;)...!

After a quick check, I deleted my accidental use of it... ;)...!

I'll check out the freeware :)

I do have UTX and GEX.

I do agree the the "awesome" word has been devalued by it's over use......but what word can we use when taking in an awe inspiring scene?

I generally do with screenshots but not on this occasion. I just paused it when the plane was banked and used the map page to adjust the position, alt and heading.

......I think we had more snow last night in SE UK than switzerland :o.
