Around the World - Pacific Crossing

Postby Jayhawk Jake » Mon Nov 07, 2011 10:39 pm

This was definitely the most challenging part of this journey...crossing the pacific in the CJ1.

I decided to use the CJ1 for the remainder of the trip.  When I arrive in Wichita, I think I'm going to try to reach Antarctica through South America using only the Citation Mustang.

Anyways....first hop was in Japan with the 'stang.  Forgot to take pics, so here's takeoff:

Strongest crosswind I've ever seen..108 knots!!! :o  Look at my ground track ;D

Now leaving Sapporo, heading for an airport on the Kamchatka Peninsula, UHPP
Image

I'll describe that flight to you: Windy, water, then ooo, land, snow, airport.  Here's the landing

Leaving Kamchatka, nice mountains (Volcanoes?)

Here was the risky part.  Hitting Dutch Harbor.  1250 NM, which is outside of the actual range of the CJ1, so I dumped all the passenger weight, and actually made it okay, although the sun was setting and it was cloudy, and Dutch Harbor is insane...mountains everywhere, short runway.

Then fully loaded and busting out (barely) to reach Juneau

And down in Juneau

Up next, two more flights: Juneau to Boise, ID, and then back home to Wichita

Hope you enjoyed, comments welcome!

Great shots. :)

How low was your fuel when you finally made it to Dutch Harbor?

Just about 20%.  Tailwind and fuel conservation helped.
