Showing the PNW demo to a friend in multiplayer :)

Postby Daube » Tue Oct 11, 2011 8:15 am

Hi all,

This weekend I have been busy helping a friend reinstall his FSX on his new computer. The guy's a video maker, so he was asking me advises for configuring/tweaking FSX, as well as finding the best-looking sceneries. Among the various recommendations I made, there was the installation of the freeware OrbX PNW demo which covers the full Olympic peninsula West of Seattle, and including the famous freeware airport KHQM Bowerman.

To help him discover the area (and verify that everything was working correctly), we decided to make a small multiplayer flight with slow planes. I would be using the default Cessna 172 (yes, I absolutely love it, and it has one of the best-looking virtual cockpits around) and he would be using the freeware Cessna 152 from JustFlight (very cool plane too). Departure was at Bowerman, destination was Sekiu 11S, so that we would cross a good part of the area covered by the demo :)

Everything in those screenshot is 100% freeware:
- Defaut Cessna 172
- JustFlight Cessna 152
- OrbX PNW demo version 2.0, including KHQM Bowerman
- HDE sky colors converted to FSX
- HD water waves by Gizmo on FSWC website
- Water tweaked with FSWC

Shortly after takeoff, he joined the formation and got in my 4 o'clock. We did a small half-circle around the airport so that he could enjoy the beauty of the scenery, and then we headed full north toward Sekiu, which is on the northern coast of the peninsula.

While we were flying over the hills, contemplating the not-so-distant mountains, we exchanged our leader/wingman roles to practise our formation flying.

We finally reached the northern coast and made a turn left to find Sekiu. I was so busy showing the place to my friend that I didn't think about taking screenshots during the approach

very nice ;) Theres a certain 'softness' about the aircraft that i think makes it look slightly 'unearthly' but the balance is good, especially on the ground shots. Nicely done :)

Well done Stephane, will be flying the same route today sometime now that the long Thanksgiving weekend is over and just the left over turkey, ham etc to eat... ;D

Agree with you on the Cessna 172, the aircraft is a lot of fun to tour around in, surprised there is not a Cessna 172 on floats available here for FSX.
Cheers...Happy Landings...Doug

Indeed Doug, the lack of Cessnas on floats is sad.
The FS9-format Maule on float is a nice replacement though. I believe it's somewhere here at Simv. The virtual cockpit is quite cool from what I've seen so far (I haven't downloaded it yet). Not on the same level as the fantastic default FSX Maule of course, but very nice nevertheless.

When it comes to payware floats, most of the times I use the default Goose and Beaver. The A2A Cub wuth Accusim is excellent, but a bit slow. The paddle is a cool touch, though  ;D

The Carrenado C185 seems to be quite impressive too.

Love the shot looking out the back window at the other Cessna! Agree with what Simon said... all the shots have a nice softness to them that make them very pleasant to look at!
My specs... A hard drive, motherboard, graphics card, some memory, a keyboard, mouse, and monitor - in other words, nothing special.
