"My Island.. "
Long ago, on another forum dedicated to science fiction/ fantasy (Speculative Vision)..
(The scene: A small spacecraft has crash landed on a small island of a small planet after being hit by a heat seeking empty beer keg.... You'll just have to take my word on that, and believe me, trying to explain would get really, really complicated.. Trust me....
**********
About an hour later, Boikat and Tipper looked around the island that he'd put the ship down on. "Nice. I think I'll call it 'My Island'."
"Your Island?"
"No, 'My island'."
"That's what I mean, why do you get to call it 'your island', when I was the one who spotted it?"
"It's not 'Your Island', it's 'My Island'."
"Well, it's not 'Your Island' either!"
"That's what I just said. It's not 'Your Island', it's 'My Island'."
"Says who?"
"Who says what?"
"Who says that is 'Your Island'?"
"Nobody. It's 'My Island'."
"Says who?"
"Nobody."
Tipper counted to 'ten' in less that two seconds.
"What's the name of this island?"
"'My Island'."
"Your Island."
"No. 'My Island'."
"Then why not just name the whole bloody planet 'My Planet'?"
"Why?"
"Why not?"
"No reason."
"Then why bother to name this 'Your Island'?"
"It seemed to be the thing to do, and it's 'My Island', not 'Your Island'."
"Oh? Okay then, where's 'My Island'?"
Boikat looked puzzled. "You're standing on it."
"IiiiiiEEEEEEEE!" screamed Tipper, as she ran up the gang plank.
Boikat turned and looked at the damage to the port ram scoop. "Thank you Abbot and Costello..."

You might be able to land a 185, but I doubt you can take one off. I did not make it with the Beaver and it is shorter landing and taking off than the 185.
Edit: Forget the 185, it ain't happenin', at least the landing part. And I think the only reason I could land the Beaver is because I was draggin' my feet, uh wheels.

Very cool shots Larry......nice landing 8-)
If you drain all but about 15-20% of your fuel, you can land the 185 here. It will take off with full fuel and three notches of flaps if you hold the brakes until the engine winds up

185....out and then back in

(under ideal weather conditions)
As far back as I can get....3/4 flaps...wind it up.......
https://www.simviation.com/phpupload/upl ... 307231.jpg.......and let it go....
https://www.simviation.com/phpupload/upl ... 345873.jpg.....Airborn, with few feet to spare.....
https://www.simviation.com/phpupload/upl ... 302945.jpgTime to relax for a minute......
https://www.simviation.com/phpupload/upl ... 323913.jpgAfter using up almost all of my fuel........down to about 15%....flaps fully extended.
I'm a bit under indicated stall speed but, I have a consistant 10 mph headwind.
https://www.simviation.com/phpupload/upl ... 304073.jpgTouching down...can't afford a bounce, not even a small one.....beginning to brake....
https://www.simviation.com/phpupload/upl ... 312858.jpg....BRAKING!!! using toe brakes and elevator to slow.
https://www.simviation.com/phpupload/upl ... 345847.jpgStill rolling here....but just barely.
https://www.simviation.com/phpupload/upl ... 317920.jpgIt took a few scary aborted attempts

I managed to take off, it was the landing I failed at. And failed miserably.

Goodly morning all...

Wonderful work and shots Chuck...keep up the great work...

Oh and in real life aviating folks:
If you can land and take off a Piper Cub there you should have no problem landing and taking off a DHC-2 Beaver or DHC-3 Otter.
My opinion (been there and done that to some extent but no one gave me a ball cap or T shirt) the DHC-3 Otter can get into locations DHC-2 Beaver can't...but that is just my opinion...

Have leaped an amphibious Otter, full fuel and five pax with kit into the air within the lenght of the aircraft.
Keep in mind also folks when you watch a STOL DHC-3 Otter climb...it is like a helicopter...she climbs with her nose pointed down.
