Taking the dust off this fantastic vintage beauty

This is of course the default FS9 Comet, that has been recompiled using the FSX SP2 SDK, which means that it's now a FSX SP2 native plane

The fact that it was recompiled as a native FSX model is very interesting. Even more interesting is knowing how it was decompiled. He used a program called "3D Ripper DX" to take a "screenshot" of the model in the FS9 Aircraft selection window. That "3d screenshot" can the be imported to 3Ds max with a plugin, then exported as 3ds format to be worked on in gmax, or you can continue working in 3Ds. (the 3d screenshot is not actually a screenshot. It's just a copy of the mesh in a 3d format that can be imported to 3Ds Max)
He was very brave to have released this model.
By the way, great shots Daube! 8-)

I believe it already is, unless it's something completely new.
Do a search for "Dehavilland Comet FSX"

I made a search and unfortunately this FSX upgrade of the Comet is not uploaded here at Simviation.
You can find it on the author's page, Classic Wings:
http://www.classicwings.net/freeplanes/ ... comet.htmlThe original FS9 model is required for this addon to work, if I remember correctly. The original can be found of the FS9 installation cds, or here at Simviation in the FSX Vintage section

It is completely new. As said before, this update transforms the Comet into a real FSX SP2 native aircraft, with self-shadows and no "props behind clouds" problems anymore

The weather system you use has the best depiction of high (Cirriform) clouds of anything out there, freeware or payware.

Thanks a lot

This is the freeware HDE v2 package by Pablo Diaz. The package is made for FS9, but the clouds are compatible with FSX.
