......is the name of the airport I took off from. I thought it sounded cool...looked real scenic like ::)
And it was....until I wanted to land at Black Rapids and, out of nowhere the weather turned on me :(

FSX/Acc
HDE clouds
FSWC water
Awesome 4Some DC-3

Going to have to cut through those clouds at some point....don't see an opening
Image
Aha! the clouds break up but, it starts snowin' and blowin'
Image
There's Black Rapids in the background, right next to the river
Image
Made it through.....about to turn crosswind

Thanks 4 looking :)

Good evening Chuck... :)

Wonderful shots and when you are flying you are seldom alone... ;D

With a few Log Books full of DC3 time I hope you don't mind me adding something... :)

Don't get your gear down in bad weather too soon, keep it up until you are committed to a final approach, gear is drag and that you do not need especially in icing.

Secondly keep the skis up until you know how much ski you need, there were several settings and full ski is not always needed.  Again skis are drag as well.

Very nice shots and enjoy flying the old girl... ;)

Cheers...Happy Landings...Doug

Hi Chuck... :)

Regarding the Skis on the Awesome DC3s.

I took a look at the several DC3s with skis and I do not see any electric button or hydraulic handle to move the skis up or down and position them.

I looked in both cockpit modes and in the aircraft notes where the keys and check list are.  I also checked settings and thought that the "Water Rudder" could be used but it did not work either.
There is no mention of ski's in the "Settings" in my FSX.

On the real aircraft like the DC3 and the DHC-3 Otter two systems were used.  There was an electric and a hydraulic system to position the ski's.  The DC3 and DHC-3 Otter were equipped with both systems on each aircraft.
They worked very well.

I do notice on the Flight Simulator Maule in FSX there is an electric switch to raise and lower the ski"s, I never checked it but I seem to remember that.

Will check around Chuck but sorry I am not much help right now.   :)

Cheers...Happy Landings...Doug
P.S. perhaps that is something that should be included in the wish list for the new MS Flight program.... ;D

Hi Chuck... :)

You will be interested in this "Link"

http://www.douglasdc3.com/quesera/quesera.htm

Perhaps this ski design was meant to be a fixed design with partial wheels for brakes.

You will also notice the tail wheel ski in the link...that was normal on most aircraft.

I can not say any more about this type of ski as I do not know anything about it but will ask around to a few other old DC3 military drivers to see what they know.

Cheers....Happy Landings...Doug

The first shot is really excellent.  8-)
You should try to use that bird in the Denali Camp mission, it's really challenging !!
