As for the sound of the big radials....

Okay Larry you are about to get educated....

Take for example the aircraft everyone seems to love... the Douglas DC3.
Put a good many years in them and the Consolidated Canso.

Now neither of them are my favourite aeroplane and they have made aviation history so I won't run them down.

However the best thing about both these radial flying aircraft was:
When I got home I would look at the old girl who had been raising the family alone while I was off aviating about the country trying not to look like I was having a lot of fun while doing something I loved.   

I would say to her..."Can't hear you dear...ears still plugged and ringing from the engine noise you know".  That worked for several days Larry.

Then we hired what they called a "Stewardess"....

It was at the Christmas party when the old girl got to talk to these fine damsels...yup Larry things went down hill from there...they mentioned things to the old girl like soundproofing the cockpits and better headphones...etc...etc.

Spent a lot of time in the corner of the barn over them big radials Larry...

Did you have one of those knifes with a curved blade so that if anyone caught on fire because of one reason or another, I am thinking fuel spill and static electricity here.

The fuel bowser driver could rip their burning clothes off without cutting them.  I believe they were standard equipment carried by fuel bowser drivers in the military.

They were quite the knife and have not seen one in years, not sure if the fuel bowser drivers carry them now or not.

There was a lot to remember when you did that job, correct me if I am wrong.
Fueling aircraft from fuel bowser:
Ground:
-Aircraft to ground
-Fuel Bowser to aircraft
-Fuel Nozzle to aircraft
-Five (5) pound Fire Extinguisher available

If fire occurs...pull pin on Fire Extinguisher and kick over then run like HELL...because there is going to be one big BANG....
