Now comes the part where you explain how these lights are not payware, and how I was right when I told myself that I should wait, because someone will eventually make a freeware 3d light addon.

Looks great!  8-)

I believe so, none of my lights had that look, or name until I bought the Shockwave 3D Redux package.

However, I also can't believe that this far into things, no one has thought of a freeware way to do this, especially after seeing HDE, if that can be done, than surely 3d lights can be.

Here's to hoping.   ;)

I could be very wrong, so I'll wait and let someone with more knowledge in lights/FX chime in before I decide either way.  ;)

I know I've downloaded a few planes that had extra cfgs for using the lights but they didn't have any of the actual light files with them.

Yeah, these are freeware. :D I stumbled upon the lights in this download:
http://www.simviation.com/cgi-bin/perlfect/search/search.pl?p=1&lang=en&include=&exclude=&penalty=5&mode=all&q=FSX+Sirocco+GTX+V.2+Motor+Yacht+Package

I've been compiling a list containing aircraft.cfg light locations for different aircraft for about a week. So far, I have the lights for: All of the default aircraft, all of the FSX native POSKY aircraft, Project Airbus A32X, Thomas Ruth's An-124, An-225, A330-200 & -300, A340-200 through -600, and the JustFlight C152.

Yeah, the list is getting pretty extensive. :o

[edit]And yes, I've had a lot of free time this week. ;D[/edit]

Maybe sometime in the next week or two. I'm going to be adding some more GA aircraft to the list.

I couldn't resist and tried it the easy way...

I had identified the FX file that was producing this nice little effect. Since the landing lights in FS9 or FSX are handled by fx_landing.fx, I thought that renaming the 3D effect file to "fx_landing" (I saved the original, of course) would do the trick, and all my planes would get a nice 3D landing light.

And guess what ?.... It DIDN'T WORK  :-[

The effect itself failed to display.
It seems that the landing light effect is kind of included directly in the model, it becomes independent from the fx_landing.fx file. The only thing it still depends on, is the spotlight.bmp file, which you can replace with Nick's addons for example. But if you replace the fx file, it won't have any impact. I'm even pretty sure that you can delete the fx_landing.fx file, the landing lights will work nevertheless.

I started modifying the aircraft.cfg of my C182 to manually include the effect as an additionnal light, just like you are doing. It works of course, but finding the correct coordinates is really a pain...
